TWO DAYS ANNUAL ATHLETICS MEET OF GZCCET INAUGURATED BY VC OF MRSPTU

The two-day 25th annual athletics meet of the Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET), a constituent college of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) kicked off on colourful note at Athletic Ground here on Thursday.

The GZCCET is celebrating the Silver Jubilee Athletic Meet as Sports Festival. As many as 175 athletes are taking part in the championship. An impressive march past was also part of the event. Large number of students, faculty and staff were present during inaugural ceremony.

Bathinda SSP, Mr. Navin Kumar Singla was the Chief Guest, while Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, presided over at the inaugural ceremony of the meet.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ishar said sports and co-curricular activities play an important role in shaping the personality of a person. He stressed the need for more participation of students in sports, NSS, NCC and other extracurricular activities. He said MRSPTU is proud of its students who have excelled in different sports and co-curricular activities at national level. He hoped that the university would produce world-class sportspersons with modern sports infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naveen Kumar Singla advised the students to be determined, hardworking and passionate about their studies as well as sports. He gave examples of China's success story in Olympics to motivate the participants, besides congratulating them on International Women's Day.

Dean, Students Welfare, Mr. R.K.Bansal and Sports department President Mr. Sikander Singh Sidhu played key role in organizing the event. Dr. R. K. Bansal said that sports teach us discipline. He also highlighted the sports achievements of the University students.

Prominent among others present on the occasion include MRSPTU, Registrar Dr. Jasbir Singh Hundal, GZSCCET, Director, Dr. Gursharan Singh, Dean and heads of various departments.

A colorful cultural event prepared by students of the cultural cell was the centre of attraction at the inauguration. NCC cadets participated in the march past along with players.  

MEN’S CATEGORY 

Amritpal Singh won the 800m race while Gurpreet Singh stood second and Preet Arsh finished third.Arashdeep Singh won the 400m race while Jagjot Singh and Manish Kumar bagged second and third position respectively.Ajaypal Singh won the 100 meter race while Rakesh Kumar and Mandeep Singh bagged second and third positions respectively.

Satyam Kumar won Gold with 5.83m in long jump during the meet. Preet Arsh (5:25m) and Ravi Kumar (5:00 meter) bagged the second and third positions, respectively.In shot put, Ayush Dikshat won the gold medal while Gurindra Singh bagged the silver and Anjani Kumar won the bronze.  

WOMEN’S CATEGORY: 

Sonali Sharma won the 400m race while Mehak Virdi stood second and Rimandeep Kaur finished third.Himani Verma won the gold in shot put while Dhuruvi Singh grabbed the silver and Anju Rai the bronze.In Long jump, Ayushi Sharma won the gold medal while Poonam clinched the silver medal and Kumari Pratibha bagged the bronze medal.
