PUNJAB DECLARE HOLIDAY IN STATE GOVT. OFFICES ON JUNE 29 AS MARK OF RESPECT OF ON SAD DEMISE OF SURINDER SINGLA

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday mourned the demise of former Finance Minister Surinder Singla (75), describing it as a personal loss and a loss for the Congress party.The Chief Minister has declared Friday a holiday in all state government offices as a mark of respect for the departed soul.

Captain Amarinder said he would miss Singla, who made outstanding contribution to the stabilisation of the state’s economy as Finance Minister in his previous stint as Chief Minister. He also recalled Singla’s development works for his constituency Bathinda, and added that the able administrator and economist had left a void in the Congress and in hearts of the people he served.

The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt sympathies for the bereaved family of Singla, whose cremation would be held tomorrow (Friday) at 11.00 am at Lodhi Road Crematorium in New Delhi, where he breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, after a prolonged illness. Singla is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. Meanwhile, the Resident Commissioner, Punjab Bhawan, New Delhi Rakhee Gupta laid a wreath on the body of Surinder Singla on behalf of the Punjab Government.

BRAHM MOHINDRA CONDOLES   

Mr. Brahm Mohindra, Health Minister,Punjab expressed grief on the sad demise of Senior Congress Leader & Former Punjab Finance Minister , Mr. Surinder Singla who passed away this morning at All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS). In a condolence message Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that he is very sad to know the sudden demise of his former colleague who has worked tirelessly for building the congress cadre in the state. He said that Mr. Singla throughout his life fought for the cause of unprivileged and poor sections of the society. He was the flag bearer in building the Bathinda constituency.  Mr. Brham Mohindra prayed the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this irreparable loss. Mr. Singla is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.   

Speaker Rana KP Singh mourns death of former Finance Minister Surinder Singla

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh has mourned the death of Former Punjab Finance Minister Mr. Surinder Singla, who passed away on Thursday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, after a prolonged illness. In his condolence message, the Speaker said that Mr. Singla was a seasoned politician, who made relentless efforts for the welfare of people especially the unprivileged and poor section of the society.Expressing heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family, he prayed the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family to bear this sad loss. 

Surinder Singla helped to get Punjab get on its feet 

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal has condoled the death of former Finance Minister Surinder Singla, stating that Singla’s tenure during the previous Congress government led by Capt. Amarinder Singh was an important milestone that laid the foundation of bringing Punjab back to financial normalcy. 

“Surinder Singla was a professional, and he understood finance issues better than most experts,” Manpreet Singh Badal said today. He was one of the few who had a grip over political economy, and that is why Surinder Singla made a quick mark not only in Punjab, but also all over the country. Moreover, he was at ease both in his constituency as well as among experts and the corporate sector – which made him one of the few Punjab politicians who had access to a wide network of experts in both economy and finance. 

My association with him goes back to over two decades, and I will always be grateful to Surinder Singla and his family who provided me wholehearted support when I contested elections from Bathinda, the Finance Minister said. “I join all Punjabis in offering condolences to Surinder Singla Ji’s family,” Manpreet Singh Badal added.

RANA GURMIT SINGH SODHI CONDOLES DEMISE OF SURINDER SINGLA

The Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has expressed shock over the demise of Ex-Finance Minister, Punjab and Ex-MP Mr. Surinder Singla who passed away today.Calling the deceased leader a brilliant Finance Minister as well as an able parliamentarian, Rana Sodhi said that during his tenure as Finance Minister - Mr. Singla undertook several pathbreaking measures which set the state on course to economic prosperity and became the voice of Punjab in the parliament. Terming the demise of Mr. Singla as the personal loss of a friend, Rana Sodhi prayed to the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss.
