A 14 member delegation of youth from United Kingdom (UK) currently on visit to state under state government’s ‘Connect to Your Roots (CYR) scheme today lauded Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for initiating this visionary step to connect youngsters settled abroad with motherland of their forefathers.
Interacting with the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma during a visit to Sports Good Manufacturer Savi International here today, the delegation comprising Programe Coordinator Varinder Singh Khera, Surinder Kaur Khera, Karan Khera, Harleen Khera, Serena Jassal, Leah Jassal , Jason Dosanjh, Gurjot Singh , Simran Lal, Kajal Lal, Harry Singh Sethi, Hunerdeep Singh Sidhu, Sargam Chhabra, Tarun Pawar, Jaskaran Rattan, Sanjeet Rattan, Jashan Singh Gill and Kiran said that this visit was very fruitful as it was acting as a platform for them to further cement their ties with the society, religion and culture of the state.
They said that the visit had been highly memorable as apart from visiting the Gurdwaras they have been able to make a direct connect with the land of their forefathers. Enthralled over the visit to Virasat-e-Khalsa and other places they said that this visit has taught a number of things to them, which were hitherto unknown to them.
The delegation also lauded the commendable efforts being made by the state government for their comfortable stay, boarding and lodging in different districts of the state. They said that above all the hospitality offered by the Punjabis in the state has the same warmth which they feel in every Punjabi settled in any part of the globe. They said that it was a memorable visit which has left an indelible imprint on their mind forever.
Earlier, welcoming the visiting delegation to Jalandhar, the Deputy Commissioner recalled that Punjab government’s unique `Connect with your roots’ (CYR) programme launched from London (UK) in September, 2017 where Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had exhorted young boys and girls, especially those who had never visited India, to participate in the two-week programme, in the state. He said that this program provides a platform to youth of Indian origin, who have never visited the country, to go back to their ancestral roots. Mr. Sharma also said that this program offers a unique opportunity to youth to acquaint themselves with the Punjab’s glorious culture and heritage besides visiting places of religious, historic and ethnic importance. He said that the district administration was duty-bound to facilitate the delegation for their comfortable stay in Jalandhar and no stone would be left unturned for this cause.
On the occasion, the delegation was also buoyed over their visit to the Sports Good Manufacturing unit during which they saw the entire process of designing, making and packaging the Rugby balls / Footballs. They lauded the efforts being made by Punjabis to produce quality sports good across the globe. Director of the Savi International Mr. Mukul Verma apprised the delegation about their entire operations. He also informed the delegation about the various sports good produced in the district, which were highly acclaimed across the world.
The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jitendra Jorwal, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Sanjeev Sharma and Mr. Mukul Verma also felicitated the delegation.
