NINE PLAYERS FROM PUNJAB IN INDIAN ROWING SQUAD FOR ASIAN GAMES

The players from Punjab form a large number of the Indian sports contingent going to take part in Jakarta Asian Games. After hockey, it’s the rowing team that comprises of a huge number of Punjab players. In the rowing team (Men) 7 players from Punjab have been included while the women's team has 2 players. The performance of the players from Punjab has been exceptional in rowing during the recent past. In the future, rowing would also come to be identified with Punjab players just as Athletics, Hockey and Shooting.

In the Men's rowing team, Olympian Swaran Singh Virk from village dalelwala in Mansa, Sukhmeet Singh from Kishangarh Farwahi, Bhagwan Singh from village thatthi bhai in Moga, Manpreet Singh from village data, Malkiat Singh from village asal uttar in Tarntaran, and Jagbir Singh from village khurda in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar are included. Similarly, in women's team, Harpreet Kaur from village sihonmajra in Ropar and Navneet Kaur from village sirthala in Ludhiana are included.

The Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi has extended best wishes to the rowing team and expressed confidence that the players would win medals and earn laurels for Punjab and the country. He also said that the state government is making wholehearted efforts to restore pristine glory of Punjab in sports so as to see the state again at the top position.
