HARYANA INITIATIVE TO PROTECT YOUNGER GENERATION: DIRECTRS TO CONDUCT SURVEY ON ILLEGAL PRODUCTION OF DRUGS

Haryana Chief Secretary Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora has directed the official to conduct a survey in the State on the illegal production, consumption of drugs and management and rehabilitation in Haryana so that a strong mechanism can be devised to protect the younger generation from the increasing drug abuse problem. She said that the survey should be conducted on the lines of the National Survey conducted on drugs.

The Chief Secretary gave these directions in meeting held with the officials of the Excise and Taxation Department, Police, Social Justices, Higher Education, School Education and Northern Region Narcotic Bureau. The Chief Secretary directed the officials to strengthen the institutional mechanism for the prevention of illicit production of drugs across the State.

She further directed the officials to prepare a detailed report on the survey main points so that the permanent solution can be found for the drug problem and further steps can be taken for its prevention.

She said further directed that a Central Management Information System should also be set up, on which the information related to drugs should be uploaded by the concerned departments including Police, Health, Social Justice and Empowerment and Education and after which the State can easily formulate and implement the actual strategy in this regard.

She said that in order to save the younger generation from the drug abuse, emphasis should be given to sensitizing the students from class 6 uptill graduation. The officers of the Department of School Education and Higher Education should prepare the necessary guidelines for government and private schools and colleges and also involve teachers to participate in the sensitizing program. She further directed the officers of Social Justice and Empowerment Department to run various awareness programs in collaboration with NGOs.

K. Jha and other senior officials were present.
