DEPTT. OF GANDHIAN AND PEACE STUDIES ORGANIZED SPECIAL EXHIBITION

The Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies on the occasion of 150 Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and forthcoming International Alumni Meet on 28-29, November, 2019 organized Special Exhibition of rare International Cartoons and Postal Stamps on Mahatma Gandhi in the Committee Room of Gandhi Bhawan, collected by Dr Surjit K Das.  

The exhibition was inaugurated by Ms. Devpreet Singh, Additional Director General (North West Region) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Press Information Bureau (PIB) Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Additional Press Registrar for RNI. In her inaugural address, she talked that every country as a mark of respect and inspiration, published hundreds of cartoons on Gandhi appeared in his lifetime as well as after his death.

Hardly any country's press failed to notice him. The motive of most of the cartoons was to provide an easy and very effective medium for understanding the evolution of Gandhi as a politician – saint and the impact he made on the history of India and on the human race and also on the world scenario also. The exhibition is the compilation of 52 cartoons and more than 100 rare postal by famous cartoonists – foreign and Indian. She further added that as a part of 150 Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this exhibition is more like a mark of respect to the ideology and practical approach of Mahatma Gandhi.  

Dr. Surjit K Das in his address talked about the history of each cartoon and the story behind each cartoon. As he studied each cartoon very minutely, so he was able to correlate each cartoon with the present times also.  

The Chairperson of the Department Dr. Manish Sharma introduced the invited guest sitting on the dais and talked about the exhibition that how this kind of exhibition are relevant for the students of Gandhian and Peace Studies and also for the general public in question.   

Prof. Bhupendra Kumar Joshi in his talk about the exhibition informed the audience about the different kind of innovative ideas are put in practice and this exhibition is the outcome of such innovative ideas. He further discussed about the different projects for the Doon Library and Research Centre, Dehradun.  

Prof. Deepti Gupta proposed vote of thanks, which was attended by large number of old Alumni members and by a large number of audiences from various departments.
