FIRST-EVER NATIONAL GATKA REFRESHER AND COACHING COURSE IN NEW YORK

Gatka Federation USA in collaboration with Gurudwara's Committee. organized its first-ever two-day National Gatka Coaching and Refresher course at Gurudwara Sikh Cultural Society here on January 18 and 19.

Gatka Federation USA general secretary Deep Singh informed that they have organized several gatka learning camps in various states of US with the help of the Gurudwara Committee and the Sangat every year.

  “This was the first time we have organized a unique camp for Gatka coaches and the referees. Purpose of this was to bring all gatka players, coaches, referees and judges at one platform, where they will have the knowledge about the rules, regulations and techniques,” said Deep Singh.

The aim of this camp was to spread awareness about Sikh history and introduce the young generation to this rich cultural heritage of gatka . Applications from gatka experts were received from various states of US. After reviewing and selection, the players were joined the course. He also added that Gatka was not popular within female gatka players but now many female players are thrilled to learn gatka and are excited to participate to learn the coaching skills.

Chief Patron of NY Gatka Association S. Satnam Singh Parhar and Chairman of Gatka Association Dr. Avtar Singh Tinna mentioned that to flourish this heritage game Gatka Championship 2020 will be conducted soon. Daler Singh,Gen Secretary of New York Gatka Association & Gurudwara Makhan Shah Lubana informed over the phone that huge number of Gatka Players have been participated in this Refresher course. He Further informed that Gatka not only helps the players to know about the heritage in details but also helps them physically & emotionally.

Prize and certificate distribution was done by Jatinder Singh Boparai, President Sikh Cultural Society NY and Head Priest Bhai Bhupinder Singh. Karamjeet Kaur and Jaskirat Singh were titled as “Best Players of -2019” and Abinash Kaur was clinched the National level Referee/Judge Ranking.

On this occasion Vice Chairman Gurdeep Singh Bhatti, Joint Secretary Vikramjit Singh, Narinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh UP were also present.
