Special Checking Exercise conducted by Chandigarh Police in view of forthcoming Republic Day-2020.

Keeping in view of Republic Day-2020 and prevailing security scenario, QRTs/special team of Operations Cell, Sector-26, Chandigarh, Dog Squad, Bomb Disposal team of Chandigarh Police, force from Police Post, Sector-17, Chandigarh, force from Police Station Sector-19, Chandigarh and Bomb Disposal team of army from Chandimandir have conducted special checking exercise to avoid any untoward incident in the city.

The checking was undertaken for the maintenance of law & order and also for the purpose of safety and security of citizens especially Women & Children. The checking was conducted at busy/crowded places i.e. ISBT, Sector-17, Chandigarh, markets of Sector-19, Chandigarh. The incoming buses from other States especially Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir were checked from anti-explosive/sabotage point of view at ISBT, Sector-17, Chandigarh. Further the checking was carried out at Sector-19 market. The vehicles parked in the area were checked thoroughly. Special attention was paid towards unclaimed baggage and objects.

This special checking drive was conducted under the direction of  Sh. Vineet Kumar, IPS, SP/Operations, U.T., Chandigarh. The checking was conducted by the Operations Cell staff headed by Insp. Jasminder Singh under the close supervision of DSP/Operations and East, Sh. Dilsher Singh Chandel. 

Meanwhile police made adequate Law & Order, Security and Traffic arrangements by deploying the manpower of  around 1100 *(GOs-15, Insprs-30, NGO/ORs-1055)* at and around the Parade Ground Sec.17 and at War Memorial. All security arrangements have been made in depth at outer and inner cordon of around Parade Ground sec.17 including roof toops, entry gates etc. In addition to these arrangements special reserve force, special pickets/nakas, PCR QRTs  , snipers have been deployed at specific locations to meet with contingency in case of any emergency. On the other hand flag march, early morning search carried out and outer border nakas and floating nakas have also been  deployed.

Further in addition to Parade Ground Sec.17 there are 148 places at various locations in the city where Republic Day 2020 is also being celebrated by different organisations, institutions, Schools, Mkt associations. 

An adequate Law &Order, Security and Traffic arrangements have been made at all the 148 places including Parade Ground Sec.17 and War Memorial.
