UK Sikh parliamentarian Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has won “Newcomer MP of the Year” award instituted by Patchwork Foundation UK.

Accepting the award, Dhesi said, “I’m hugely honoured and humbled to have been awarded the overall newcomer MP of the year award, to recognise my work in parliament and beyond. I’m immensely grateful to all members of the public who nominated and voted for me, and to the Patchwork Foundation, which itself does incredible work as a non-partisan charity.

Since being elected in 2017, I have fought hard to represent the underrepresented and will continue to do so. Now more than ever, we need to ensure that those most vulnerable have a voice.”

 Punjabi Cultural Council Chairman Harjeet Singh Grewal, State Awardee, has congratulated Dhesi for receiving this prestigious award and said that being a first Sikh Parliamentarian in the Europe, Dhesi has always raised the issues of minorities in the British Parliament. Grewal said that Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi has always done exemplary work by raising public issues pertaining to his constituency as well as issues related to the NRIs.

  

Along with Dhesi, other parliamentarian Sajid Javid has won MP of the year award.

Imran Sanullah, CEO, Patchwork Foundation said, MP Dhesi has been honoured for his work on hate crime and community cohesion.”

It is pertinent to mention here that MP of the year awards celebrates those who successfully engage with under-represented communities. These prestigious awards were traditionally presented at Speakers House in the Palace of Westminster in which MPs from across the country, constituency members, masterclass graduates and community leaders participated to celebrate the nominees and award winners.
