GO Tammana, in its continued effort to salute the front line warriors for their service in these difficult times, carried out distribution drives under its initiative KARONA in the middle of a sunny May'2020.

Respectively covering different belts of Chandigarh to distribute safety & hygiene kits to the Garbage collectors in different Garbage collection centers of each sector, Founder President, Isha Kakaria shared that “the emergence of community spread across the city beautiful and a small city like Chandigarh being ‘Red-Zoned’, clearly disclosed the importance of social distancing and adopting hygiene practices. In this pandemic, helping us maintain hygiene are garbage collectors. We are grateful for their indisputable services and hence decided to en-route Chandigarh and distribute sanitizers & reusable gloves to these heroes.”

She added that 'We also distributed Sanitary Pads to the female staff, in addition to the safety kits. With every distribution drive, we found an excellent opportunity to speak to people and demonstrate about hygiene and safety measures. From a safe distance, the message about safety was conveyed. Individual questions were addressed and help was offered as needed. While on the field, it remains our priority to wear the masks & gloves ourselves while the distribution & maintain proper distancing.”

General Secretary, Jaskaran Singh told us that Sectors 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 49, 52 and 32 of Chandigarh were covered in one go and and Sectors 31, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 38W, 41 and Ramdarbar were covered by us in a following drive. The staff was most thrilled to receive the hygiene kits themselves without their any intermediaries. The Garbage Collector Union President & Vice President helped guide us with all the routing of the garbage collection centers of each sector. 

Public Relations Executive, Anubha Ohri is overwhelmed that contributions received from within the team & from the general public, in addition to the Sanitizers from the Union Bank of India; helped us distribute the kits to the maximum garbage collectors in Chandigarh. 

Office Coordinator, Meenakshi Mahajan said “while we salute these heroes, we didn’t want to forget our responsibility towards Mother Nature. In order to prevent unnecessary waste build-up, Reusable gloves were distributed to workers along with hand sanitizers. She also stated that NGO Tammana aims to continue help the deprived under its KARONA Initiative and urges everyone to come forward and donate or simply help us spread the word.
