'VARSHA RITU SANGEET SANDHYA' VIRTUAL EVENT TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 9-10

RENOWNED CLASSICAL SINGER SAWANI SHENDE AND FLUTIST RAVINDER SINGH TO PERFORM

Indian National Theatre is all set to organize a virtual ‘Varsha Ritu Sangeet Sandhya’ this time. 

On this occasion, Indian National Theatre Secretary, Vinita Gupta informed that this event would not be held in an auditorium this year, but this time it will be held online in view of the pandemic. The purpose of this festivity is to celebrate the arrival of the rains with joyous and relevant raagas pertaining to the season. Vinita Gupta while further elaborating on the event informed that on August 9 at 6:30 pm, Sawani Shende, classical singer will give her presentation. Hailing from Pune, Sawani was born in a musically rich family. She was introduced to Indian Classical Music at the tender age of six by her grandmother, Kusum Shende, herself a noted singer of the Kirana Gharana and an honoured artist of the Sangeet Natak Era. Sawani’s father, Dr. Sanjeev Shende, a disciple of Shobha Gurtu, has groomed her in semi classical genres like Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, etc.

Quest for more and more knowledge in music brought Sawani to learn more music under the expert guidance of Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, a noted classical vocalist from Gwalior Gharana. She has been felicitated on several important occasions and has performed at several prestigious national and international programmes. 

Vinita Gupta said on August 10 at 6:30 pm well known flautist Ravinder Singh will give his presentation. A graded artiste of the AIR since 1978, Ravinder Singh has made an astounding contribution to Hindustani classical music, light music and regional folk music. Ravinder Singh son of Anant Singh Kabli was born on July 27, 1944 in Lahore (West Pakistan). After partition, the family settled in Ludhiana. He started playing Flute at the age of 10. Formal training in Classical Music began in the year 1961 in Chandigarh under the able guidance of famous Vocalist of Punjab Jagdish Mitter. He has participated in several events in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata, Bhopal, Agra and Delhi. Ravinder Singh has given his music for 6000 music albums from 1984 to 2007 and was also the music director for a Haryanvi film Jatni. He has performed with famous artistes - Gopi Krishan, Sitara Devi, Shobha Kosar, Uma Sharma, Jagjit Singh and Reshma - to name a few.
