The details news which appeared today in handling of Corona Virus by administration is a matter of worry particularly when the administration has sought help from the Central Govt. Being a resident of Chandigarh since long and having seen the administrative working closely all these years we feel that ground realities are surfacing now.

For detailed discussion we have to revisit the last week of April when there was sudden surge of cases and we approached PMO on 3rd May 2020, through a representation, to appoint a Central Observer to ensure that adequate steps were being taken by administration to tackle Corona crisis.Even Twits to concerned official did not any response and we have reached 5000 cases with no let up anywhere in near future. Perhaps Administration never wanted press the panic button in informing the people about the facts and figures on the basis of which they were preparing for 3600 cases and made arrangements for that much active cases.

Now the cases have crossed 5000 and daily surge of over 200 the administration rightly sought a visit of experts to analyse the situation.Along with that they should make efforts to ensure public participation and work on suggestions made by public. Long back we have suggested to create Isolation Centers in all Bhawnas and Community Centers as creating such facilities nearby will help the sectoral residents who are getting symptoms. There is dire need of controlling the medical facilities in Private Sector and expenses on treatment along with creating self-help groups amongst public to create in house facilities as with the increasing number of cases health Authorities may be under tremendous pressure.

In the last six months we the people have learnt a lot towards measures adopted by various Govts all over the world. How the health facilities were created and made helpful to people. How the spread was brought under control. Chandigarh being one of the most literate people could make better suggestions Crux is that people have to help themselves .

May the Better sense prevail and Central Govt sends a team of experts so that people do not suffer the way they have been. Here is it also pointed out that our adjoining districts are even bigger area than us and there also cases are increasing day by day and active cases are as big as we have ,in these distracts only one Deputy Commissioner is looking after entire situation but here we have full administration headed by a Governor as such Chandigarh being Capital of Both states can take a lead in coordinating the steps for entire tricity and in this bad very bad situation people are not left to help selves.

IN this whole scenario it is the people who have to play the most crucial role. Let all NGOs, RWAs, Associations and individuals come forward and make sure that all residents of tricity wear Mouth Masks, follow Social Distancing to KEEP CORONA AT DISATNCE.

We still hope that Central Govt may come to our rescue and Chandigarh will take lead in controlling the pandemic ASAP.  (Writer is Convenor, RTI Chandigarh))
