KAPIL DEV SUFFERED HEART ATTACK UNDERGONE ANGIOPLASTY

Former Indian captain and veteran all-rounder Kapil Dev underwent angioplasty after suffering a heart attack and is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next two days. Kapil (61) was rushed to the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute Emergency Department here on Thursday after complaining of chest pain. 

The hospital had only mentioned chest pain in its initial statement, but then said in the health bulletin, ‘Cricketer Kapil Dev had sufferred  heart attack. He was examined and emergency coronary angioplasty was performed at night. Dr. Atul Mathur and his team are in ICU. His condition is stable. He is expected to be discharged from the hospital in two days. Angioplasty is the process of opening blocked arteries so that normal blood flow to the heart can take place. 

Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) president and Kapil's friend Ashok Malhotra said that now his health is fine. Former Test cricketer Malhotra said, "He is feeling fine now. I just talked to his wife (Romi). He was feeling a little uneasy yesterday. He is being tested at the hospital. Many on social media wished the 1983 world champion the great all-rounder a speedy recovery.

Kapil, one of India's greatest cricketers, has played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs. He is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 (434) wickets and scored more than 5000 runs in Test matches. He has also been the national coach of India between 199 and 2000. Kapil was inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame in 2010. His former teammate Kirti Azad tweeted, "Our captain with big heart and never giving up Kapil Dev has recovered. Nothing is impossible for this giant player of Indian cricket. Kapil is my best friend and best person. Will be eating together soon.
