A meeting with the representatives of various students unions of Panjab University, Chandigarh including SOI, SATH, PS (L), ASA, Swaraj, AISA, SUI and SFS was held at 11.00 AM in the Committee Room Police Hqrs, Sector-09, Chandigarh, under the chairmanship of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Chahal,  in connection with ongoing protests by the student unions regarding Senate/ Syndicate Elections-2020 in Panjab University, Chandigarh. 

During the meeting, the W/SSP/UT Chandigarh welcomed all the student members and apprised them about the present scenario and Law & Order situation in the Punjab University, Chandigarh, in-connection with Panjab University Senate/Syndicate Elections-2020.

The student representative demanded early election of Senate of Punjab University, which have been dissolved on 31.10.2020, to save the democratic structure of University. But the University authorities are postponing the senate elections on the pretext of New Education Policy and others, whereas, the PUTA elections have recently been conducted. The students apprised that all their issue/problems are solved with the intervention of Senate, as they earlier raised many issues like fee hike, Girls hostel timing issues, appointment of Dean Student’s welfare, Ex officio members, which were resolved with the intervention of senate. The University authorities never listened to their problems directly.

The W/SSP/UT, Chandigarh assured the students representatives that Chandigarh Police is ready to co-operate the students regarding their demands rather the students’ organisations have to maintain the Law & Order and observe peace during their protests. The students unions should keep a check that nobody from outside capture or hijack their protest.

The student’s representative assured to the W/SSP/UT, Chandigarh that they will maintain law & order and peace during their protest by abiding the rules and regulations of Chandigarh Administration. In the end, the W/SSP/UT, Chandigarh thanked to all representatives of students unions for sharing their issues and assured cooperation of local police.
