SOCIAL MEDIA INFULENCER, HER FRIEND ARRESTED WITH HELP OF GOA POLICE IN A SENSATIONAL CASE OF SNATCHING OF FOREIGN CURRENCY

The joint team of PS Hauz Khas & Spl. Staff, South District has done commendable work by arresting a social media influencer and her friend namely Amrita Sethi R/o Rajouri Garden, Delhi. Age-26 years. and Akshit Jhamb S/o Lalit Jhamb R/o Tilak Nagar, Delhi. Age- 25 years. who had snatched foreign currency in Delhi and had run away to Goa.

Amrita Sethi have 80 thousand followers on instagram.

Mr. Atul Kumar Thakur, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police,South District, said , Nov. 5, a complainant Mr. Manoj Sood, R/o Rohini, Delhi lodged a complaint at PS Hauz Khas wherein the complainant stated that he worked in a company dealing in forex exchange. He was instructed by his superior to deliver 3300 US Dollars to a client and get Rs. 2,45,340/- transferred in the account of the company in exchange.

The complainant talked to the client on his mobile number who asked him to reach near Panchsheel Club, Delhi. Accordingly, the complainant reached at the given location where a boy and a girl were found sitting in a car. They also asked him to sit inside the car and moved towards an ATM to withdraw money but according to the complainant, the money could not be withdrawn.

During the course of investigation, the complainant was enquired upon thoroughly to get the details of the case. On getting the details, the team collected CCTV footage near the place of incident and thoroughly analyzed the same to get any clue about the culprits. Local sources were deployed. The persistent efforts of the team bore fruits when the team succeeded in identifying the car used by the culprits in one of the footages. The details of owner of the said car were obtained and the team reached the address.

After that, they asked to the complainant to provide the dollars to them and in the meanwhile, they were trying to arrange the money. The complainant refused to give them the dollars prior to receiving/transferring the amount. At last, they asked him to show the dollars instead. The complainant showed them the bag and suddenly, they snatched the bag and fled away in the car. On his complaint, a case vide FIR No. 445/20 u/s 379/356/34 IPC was registered at PS- Hauz Khas and investigation was taken up.

TEAM : During investigation, a joint team of Narcotics & PS- Hauz Khas comprising of SI Talib Khan, ASI Raja Ram, Ct. Parveen, Ct. Rajeev and W/Ct. Sunita led by Inspr. Akshay SHO/Hauz Khas & Inspr. P.K. Jha I/C Narcotics Squad under supervision of ACP/Hauz Khas Sh. Rajnish & Sh. Bijender Singh ACP/Ops. was formed to investigate the matter and nab the culprits.

ANALYSIS OF CCTV CAMERA & POLICE OPERATION: During the course of investigation, the complainant was enquired upon thoroughly to get the details of the case. On getting the details, the team collected CCTV footage near the place of incident and thoroughly analyzed the same to get any clue about the culprits. Local sources were deployed. The persistent efforts of the team bore fruits when the team succeeded in identifying the car used by the culprits in one of the footages. The details of owner of the said car were obtained and the team reached the address.

The owner of the car informed the police that the car was taken by his son and his two friends. On further enquiry, it was found that his son went from their home since the last 2-3 days which raised a suspicion. On getting the clue, the police team started working in this direction. With consistent efforts, location of his son was zeroed down in Goa with the help of technical surveillance.

Instantly, the senior officers of South District, Delhi Police contacted Shri Shobhit D Saksena, IPS of Goa police and apprised him about the presence of the culprits in Goa who gave a prompt response. With the assistance of Goa police, the Delhi police team zeroed down on the culprits who were staying in a five star hotel there. The hotel staff was enquired about the culprits and finally the police team reached there. They were identified as Akshit and Amrita Sethi. On enquiry, they told that they were friends and had come on a tour to Goa.

On questioning, they misled the police staff, however, on consistent questioning, they broke down and confessed to the above said crime. Further, they were asked about the Kushaal (son of the car owner) who was also found to be staying in the same hotel. All were taken in police custody and were produced in Hon’ble Court in Goa. The Hon’ble Court granted three days transit remand and the accused are being brought to Delhi. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized. The accused revealed that they had spent the snatched amount in their stay in Goa and also in playing Poker in Casinos.Further interrogation is under progress. The staff involved in good work is being suitably rewarded.
