The 78th “Balidan Diwas” of “Sher-e-Sind” Hemu Kalani, who was hanged on January 21, 1943, by the British, was celebrated in many areas today.

Hundreds of Sindhis thronged the temples and memorials to pay tributes to the martyr. At a function in the Jhulelal temple at Padampur, a seminar was organised under the joint aegis of Indian Sindhu Sabha, Sindhi Panchayat, Youth Organization and Bhanushali Samaj.

Hemu Kalani's life was highlighted by Ghanshyam Harwani, divisional in-charge of the Indian Sindhu Sabha. He said that Hemu gave a jolt to the British regime by opening the nuts of the railway tracks in his young age; he refused to feel sorry for his act till the last moment of hanging.
