THREE TO FIVE YEARS RI TO THEN DY DIRECTOR OF MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT , TWO OTHERS IN BRIBERY

The Designated Court, Delhi has sentenced Neeraj Khatri, then Dy Director (Scientist-C), Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, (Govt. of India) to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs. five Lakh; Sh. S. Vaikundarajan, Managing Partner of M/s V.V.Minerals to undergo three years RI with fine of Rs. five Lakh and Ms. Subbulaxmi, Liaison Officer of M/s V.V.Minerals to undergo three years RI with fine of Rs. two Lakh. A fine of Rs. 10 Lakh was also imposed on M/s V.V.Minerals, Keeraikaranthattu, Tisaiyanvilai, Tirunvelveli District (Tamilnadu).

A case was registered on 01.03.2016 against Sh. Neeraj Khatri, the then Dy. Director (Scientist-C) in the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, (Govt. of India) and Sh. S. Vaikundarajan, Ms. Subbulakshmi (both private persons) and M/s V.V.Minerals.

It was alleged that Neeraj Khatri while posted as Deputy Director (Scientist-C) had demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 4,13,000/- from Sh. S.Vaikundarajan in the form of Bank Demand Draft in favour of VIT University Vellore (Tamilnadu) for the payment of admission fee of his son. It was further alleged that the said bribe was paid for the environment clearance of the firm M/s V V Minerals which was pending in the said Ministry where Sh. Neeraj Khatri was posted as Deputy Director at the relevant time.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed in the Court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Delhi against the accused. Charges were framed on 30.01.2018 against all the accused.

The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them.
