QUEEN’S ROAD IN JAIPUR RENAMED AS‘HOSHIAR SINGH MARG’

Abohar: The famous Queen’s Road at Vaishali Nagar in Jaipur was today renamed as‘Hoshiar Singh Marg’ and a bust of the war hero Late Colonel Hoshiar Singh,Param Vir Chakra was unveiled by Lt General Alok Kler, PVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South WesternCommand in a military ceremony.

The event was organised as part of ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ celebrations, which is being observed nationwide on the occasion of 50 years of the glorious victory of theIndian Armed Forces over Pakistan in the historic 1971 Indo-Pak War.

Late Colonel Hoshiar Singh, Param Vir Chakra, was commissioned in3 GRENADIERS in June 1963 and earned the highest gallantry award of the nation atthe famous Battle of Jarpal, across the Basantar River wherein Jarpal, (a border townin Pakistan) was captured against overwhelming odds. Under the gallant leadership ofColonel (then Major) Hoshiar Singh, multiple enemy counter attacks were repelled byhis Rifle Company.

The fearless officer refused to be evacuated despite havingsustained grievous injuries. While leading by example from the front, his astutestewardship witnessed multiple instances of bravery and fortitude amongst the men hecommanded.

Smt. Dhanno Devi w/o Late Colonel Hoshiar Singh, Param Vir Chakra, was alsopresent on the occasion of unveiling of the memorial and offered floral tributes. Severalsenior Army Officers were also present to witness the solemn event, which wasorganised at the Vijay Dwar Military Complex in Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur. The majesticMemorial and the newly named road is a humble tribute Indian Army’s sacrifices by agrateful nation.
