BATHINDA GIRL KHUSHPREET REACHED TO SEMIFINAL IN ASIA, OCEANIA OLYMPIC AND PARA OLYMPIC CONTINENTAL QUALIFICATION REGATTA IN TOKYO.

Chandigarh Khushpreet Kaur reached to semifinal in Asia and ocean Olympic and Paralympic Continental qualification regatta in Tokyo. This was disclosed here by Associate joint Secretary of Rowing Federation of India Advocate Rajiv Sharma.

A native of Bathinda Khushpreet Kaur has come to Chandigarh and participating in athletics where she met water sports in charge of rowing .

Mr Deepak Kumar Singh who guided her to start rowing. A Student of DAV College Sector 10 Chandigarh Khushpreet Kaur started learning rowing under the watchful eyes of rowing coach Mr Deepak Singh and started participated in rowing competition in 2018.

She participated in Inter College rowing tournaments of Punjab University Chandigarh and did well and got selected in India Rowing National Camp and under the training of Arjuna Awardee Mr Dalbir Singh at Bhopal Rowing Academy she was selected to represent India in singles scull in the qualification Regatta recently held at Tokyo Japan from May 5th to 7th.

Chandigarh have given and produced many national level international level rowers who participated in varoius level and in the Olympics but still the Rowing course of Chandigarh is neglected by the sports department as nothing has been done so far for the international level rowing course of 2 kilometre , burnt rowing tower has not been constructed after the previous one was burnt down, No new boats oars for training have been purchased by the department and no proper boat shed is available, which are the basic and urgent requirements. Indian rowers qualify in Lt wgt double scull for Tokyo 2021.

In such a short time of only four months training due to National lock down she did extremely well and for the first time a women singles aculler of India reached to the semi final in the the Olympic qualification Championship at Tokyo 2021

Chandigarh Rowing Association (RWA) have given so many National level international level and players who participated in Olympics which brought laurels for the city
