With a 21.49 m Shot Put throw, Tajinderpal Toor has today qualified for Tokyo Olympics after breaking his own National Record at Indian Grand Prix at NIS Patiala.

On this stupendous feat of Toor, Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi extended greetings saying that this achievement will infuse confidence among other athletes to conquer the world with iron hand. He said that with this, he also broke Asian record of 21.13 of Sultan Abdulmajeed Al-Hebshi.

Pertinently Tajinderpal Singh Toor hails from the Khosa Pando village in the Moga district of Punjab. He was into cricket before switching full-time to shot put based on recommendations by his father. His uncle helped train him initially. His first international medal was at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, where he finished second with a throw of 19.77. He won Gold at the 2018 Asian Games with a total record throw of 20.75m. The throw also broke the national record at that time.
