NATIONAL GATKA ASSOCIATION TO CONFER THREE PRESTIGIOUS GATKA AWARDS : GREWAL

The National Gatka Association of India, affiliated with the World Gatka Federation, will confer three elite Gatka awards to renowned Gatka personalities, best players and coaches with shield, shawl and roll of honor who have made invaluable contributions in the field of Gatka.

Sharing this here today, the chairman of National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) Ram Singh Rathore and president Harjeet Singh Grewal disclosed that these awards would be presented for the years 2020 and 2021 on the coming national Gatka championship at Ferozepur and are dedicated to the 7th International Gatka Day. He added that a high-powered committee would be constituted by the oldest registered sports body of Gatka the NGAI, for transparent selection of awardees in this month.

Furthermore, he revealed that the highest honour 'Gatka Gaurav Award' would be conferred to those who have made invaluable contribution in promoting and dissemination of Sikh Martial Art Gatka as a sport in India and abroad.

The Gatka coaches would be honored with 'President's Gatka Award' who are imparting martial art skills to the players as per the prescribed rules, organized training/referee camps, produced a large number of male/female Gatka players and enhanced the prestige of Gatka in the country and globally, he added.In addition to this, he informed that those who clinched positions in national Gatka games, Inter-varsity competitions, state level tournaments and 'Virsa-sambhal events besides organized maximum Gatka camps, referee courses/clinics and refresher courses would be honored with N.G.A.I Gatka Awards.

Gatka promoter Mr. Grewal revealed that online applications with regard to these three awards have been invited and candidates must send details on the association's email i.e NGAIAwards@gmail.com by July 20. Thereafter, the list of awardees would be prepared and then uploaded on the website www.Gatkaa.com

He added that the awards would be presented by Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi at the inaugural function of the ninth National Gatka Championship being organized by the NGAI at Guru Harsahai, Ferozepur district from August 7th to 9th, 2021.

Apart from this, he highlighted that the two best Gatka players clinching positions and performing exemplary during the national Gatka games would be conferred as 'Shastrashar Purush' and 'Shastreshar Mahila' awards who would won as 'Man/Woman of the Match' It is worth mentioning here that, the Gatka Association Punjab, who is hosting the national championship, has been allowed to present a distinct honor to a prominent Gatka player/coach/referee.

National president Mr Grewal has asked all state Gatka associations and players from all the states who are keenly interested to participate in the national championship could register their teams online at www.Gatkaa.com from July 1th to July 10th. No team would be entertained in this tournament without registering online on the website, he added.
