RAPE CONVICT SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT BY SRIGANGANAGAR COURT

The Special Court (No. 2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO Act) cases in Sriganganagar has sentenced the convict in abduction and rape incident of a minor girl to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 82,000. In default of payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional punishment.

Special Public Prosecutor Navpreet Kaur Sandhu said that on February 26, 2016, a person in Raisinghnagar, Sriganganagar while filing a report, had accused Duli Chand Nayak of luring his minor daughter away. The complainant alleged that while taking away his daughter, Duli Chand stole gold earrings and about Rs10,000 from the house.

After investigation, the police presented a challan against Duli Chand in the court. Nine witnesses and 23 documentary pieces of evidence were presented during the hearing in the court. The Court of Arun Agrawal sentenced the accused Duli Chand to life imprisonment and imposed a total fine of Rs 82,000 under different Sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. In default of payment of fine, the convict shall undergo further rigorous imprisonment of 3 years. 

On searching, the victim girl was recovered later from Chak 12-GD village. Later Duli Chand allegedly threatened the family that he would pick up the girl again. The family feared that Duli Chand might have exploited the girl after the kidnapping and informed the police.

Police registered a case and started an investigation. The statement of the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was recorded under Section 164 of CrPC. The victim said that Duli Chand on February 25 took her to Gharsana by bus. There he forcibly raped her. Duli Chand again raped her when she was alone in the house.
