VERBAL ATTACK USING CASTE RELATED ABUSIVE WORDS: NCSC REMINDS DC, SSP CHANDIGARH TO SUBMIT IMMEDIATE REPORT

National Commission for Schedule Castes (NCSC) took strong notice of the verbal casteist attack on a SC employee, who works as Operation Theatre Assistant at Police Hospital, Sector 26. The Commission, on the orders of its Chairman Vijay Sampla, has issued a ‘reminder’ notice to the Chandigarh UT Administration and asked them to submit an action taken report immediately.

As per the information received by the NCSC from Kamaljeet, OTA, Police Hospital Sector 26, was given charge of maintaining the 10 oxygen cylinders in the hospital. While he was performing his duty and asked for signatures on the required documents, the senior medical officer (SMO) of the hospital, Dr Arvind Pal, used caste-related abusive words to defame Kamaljeet. The SMO, refused to sign the required documents and threatened him of dire consequences. Kamaljeet also informed that the SMO also used abusive words for his family members.

After issuing a reminder notices to Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), UT Administration, Sampla said that the authorities had not submitted any action taken report on this matter even after the lapse of the stipulated time period, when the notice was issued on June 23, this year.

In the reminder notice, NCSC asks authorities to look into the matter and to ensure that the said report is submitted to the Commission immediately.
