The Open Judo Championship was organized by the Surinder Jakhar Trust (SJT) in association with the District Judo Association here. Trustee Jaiveer Jakhar and Mayor Vimal Thatai were the chief guests, Suryakant Rinwa, president of Sahitya Sadan was present as the special guest.
As many as 150 players from about 10 teams participated in this competition. Teams from Judo Coaching Center Abohar, Government Senior Secondary School Ramsara, Fazilka, Gidderanwali, Dutaranwali, Sriganganagar, Raman Martial Arts Club, and Adharshila School etc participated in this competition.
Jaiveer Jakhar said that sports are a better option to keep youth away from drugs. Youth were ruining life in the quagmire of drugs and it is necessary to have such games to get them out of the menace. He said that through sports, youth can remain completely fit mentally and physically. He said that drug addiction is unfortunately taking youth in its grip. He appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and improve their health by participating in sports activities. On the occasion, the winners were rewarded.
