CLOSURE OF EVENING SHIFTS, EMPHASIS ON VOCATIONAL COURSES & ACCREDITATION OF TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS ARE THE MAJOR REFORMS BY AICTE

AICTE BANS NEW TECHNICAL INSTITUTIONS FOR 2 YEARS IN THE COUNTRYm VARIOUS STATE ASSOCIATIONS INCLUDING FSFTI, PUCA, PUTIA ETC ATTENDED THE WORKSHOP

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi organized a workshop to deliberate on the Approval Process Handbook 2020-21. Around 500 stakeholders of various Technical Institutions of the Country attended the workshop.

Various State associations including Federation of Self Financing Technical Institutions (FSFTI), Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA), Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) along with 12-15 more state associations participated in the workshop.

Later, the delegations also met Prof. Alok Prakash Mittal, Member Secretary, AICTE under the leadership of President, FSFTI & PUCA, Dr. Anshu Kataria & General Secretary, FSFTI, Sh. KVK Rao to apprise him problems of standalone institutions.

AICTE introduces major changes in the APH including ban on new technical institutions for 2 years, closure of 2nd or part time shifts thereby making all courses full time regular, merging of the existing Technical institutions running under the same Trust/Society at different places, reducing the duration of MCA Course from 3 years to 2 years etc. Moreover, AICTE will not permit any institution to run both MBA and PGDM course simultaneously under same institution from coming session. The delegation further urged AICTE to give relaxation in various other norms.

Change in Faculty Ratio for Unaccredited Institutions: Reacting on the new norms, General Secretary, FSFTI, Sh. KVK Rao urged AICTE to permit the unaccredited Technical institutions to appoint faculty in the ratio 1:20 on the admitted intake due to reduction of 50% admissions in past years.

Relaxation in getting Technical Institutions accredited:

While reacting on the clause of APH to get accreditation in 60% of the courses in next 3 years, Sh. Shridhar Singh (Rajasthan) said that such ultimatum to the colleges would encourage them to adopt illegal means.

Tough to pay 7th Pay Commission: President, PUCA, Dr. Anshu Kataria said that because of the delay in release of scholarships from Centre and State Governments for more than 3 years and variable fee structure in the technical institutions it is very tough to pay the salaries in time to the faculty by many institutions via nationalized banks as per 7th pay commission as prescribed by AICTE.

Conversion of Conventional Courses to Vocational: Mr. Kishore Munirathinam (Chennai) and Sh. T D Esawara Moorthy (Tamil Nadu) while welcoming the step of conversion of existing conventional courses to vocational courses said that would help in developing skills in the students as per the demand of the industry while other many of the conventional courses are not job oriented.

AICTE officials including Chairman, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe; Member Secretary, Prof. Rajive Kumar; Adviser, Dr. Usha Natesan; Adviser, Prof. R.Hariharan; Director, Col. B Venkat; Adviser, Prof. Dileep N. Malkhede; Director, NW Region, Dr. R. K. Soni; Director, Dr. N.H. Siddalingaswamy; Director, Dr. Ramesh U etc were present during the workshop.

S. Gurpreet Singh, General Secretary (PUCA); S. Gurkirat Singh, Joint Secretary (PUCA); S. Rajinder Singh Dhanoa, Punjab unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA); Sh. Harinder Kanda (PUTIA); Sh. B.S Yadav (Madhya Pradesh); Mr. Puneet Bakhchandi (Rajasthan) etc were also present.
