PUNJAB GOVERNMENT ORDERS SPECIAL GIRDAWRI TO ASCERTAIN DAMAGE TO COTTON CROPS AFTER PINK BOLLWORM ATTACK

The Deputy Chief Ministers S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Sh O.P. Soni today ordered a special girdawri to ascertain the damage to the cotton crops after an attack of pink bollworm while presiding over a meeting with the top brass of the Agriculture and Cooperation Department at his office on the directions of the Chief Minister.

The meeting saw comprehensive discussions on the issue of shortage of DAP and Urea supply.

Accordingly, it was decided that keeping in view less supply allocation by Government of India to Punjab, the matter should be taken up emphatically with the Department of Fertilizers, Government of India for increasing supply of DAP and Urea as the sowing season of Wheat is fast approaching in the month of November. In the meeting, works pertaining to both the departments Agriculture and Cooperation were also reviewed.

Among those present in the meeting included the newly appointed Chief Secretary Mr. Anirudh Tewari who also holds the charge of Financial Commissioner (Development), Registrar Cooperative Societies Mr. Vikas Garg, Special Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Varun Roojam, Commissioner Agriculture Dr. Balwinder Singh Sidhu and Director Agriculture Mr. Sukhdev Singh Sidhu.


Punjab Launches Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2021

Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Punjab (DWSS) has launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021 with the objective to achieve National ranking on basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters.
Divulging the details, a spokesperson informed that Smt. Jaspreet Talwar Principal Secretary launched SSG at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA) Chandigarh in the presence of Sh. Amit Talwar Additional Secretary, Sh. Rakesh Sharma, Mission Director Swacch Bharat Mission Grameen (SBMG) and all District Sanitation Officers and State SBM (G) team.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Amit Talwar outlined the objectives of SSG 2021. He explained areas of marking under SSG 2021 like Self Reporting, Direct Observation and Citizen Feedback and also shared his experiences and best practices from SSG 2019. He informed that the survey will be conducted from 25th Oct to 23rd Dec 2021. Further, he emphasized on Citizen Feed Back; one of the key components of SSG 2021. The district teams were advised to prepare a meticulous media plan for the success of SSG 2021. Sh. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Mission Director SBMG gave an overall view of Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021.

During the key note address Smt. Jaspreet Talwar mentioned that in Punjab, the survey will be carried out by an Independent Survey Agency; M/s Ipsos Research Pvt. Ltd. and 521 villages will be randomly selected for the survey. 10 households and 5 public places from each selected village will be evaluated on various Swachhta parameters. The main objective of SSG 2021 is to encourage large scale citizen participation performance comparison of districts & states, ascertain progress of Swachhata on ground, solicit feedback from citizens and evaluate implementation of Solid & Liquid WasteManagement in the districts.

She emphasized that collective effort of District Administration, Department of Rural Development of Panchayats, and other stake holder departments, Gram Panchayats need to put in their best efforts for conducting SSG 2021 on ground. She also reiterated that citizen feedback is most important component of this survey and districts needs to organize extensive awareness campaigns making it a people’s movement. SSG 2021 will foster a spirit of healthy competition amongst the districts to top in national raking which will be a matter of pride for the entire State.
Dr. Anoop Tripathi, M&E Expert SBMG, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, GOI provide necessary impetus to the districts at the State Level Launch. Dr. Anoop appreciated the State and shared that Punjab is amongst the first State in India which has launched Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021. He also gave his valuable inputs for effective implementation of SSG 2021 in the districts.
A detailed presentation was given by Sh. Jaspreet Singh, Manager Operations, Ipsos Research Pvt. Ltd on SSG Framework & Ranking Protocol. The live demonstration for reporting on IMIS was also given to the participants. All the queries raised by the participants were also addressed one by one.
All Additional Deputy Commissioners (Development), officers from Department of Rural Development & Panchayats, Social Staff attended the launch virtually from their respective districts.


PUNJAB GOVERNMENT INCREASES TESTING & TREATMENT TO PREVENT DENGUE OUTBREAK: ALOK SHEKHAR, PRINCIPAL SECRETARY HEALTH

TESTING & TREATMENT OF DENGUE IS FREE OF COST IN GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS

Principal Secretary Health Mr. Alok Shekhar here today stated that an upsurge in dengue cases has been reported in Punjab in the current year. He said 1724 confirmed cases from across state have already been reported till day. Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, SAS Nagar, Bathinda, and Pathankot are among the major districts attributing dengue cases. He said that to prevent and manage dengue outbreaks, the Government of Punjab has increased the number of testing labs to 39. He added that testing and treatment of dengue is free of cost in all Government hospitals.

Divulging more details Mr. Alok Shekhar said that Dengue and Malaria have been notified under Epidemic Disease Act, 1897, according to which all private medical practitioners must report the Dengue and Malaria case to the Department of Health and Family Welfare. Legal action can be taken against any hospital for disobeying the notification. He said that sufficient kits for testing and whole blood and blood components are available in Government Hospitals. Rate Contract of Larvicides and Insecticides are in place and sufficient quantity for spray is available.

He disclosed that Department has identified the dengue wards and earmarked dengue beds in the Government hospitals for prompt and proper management of dengue cases. The number of breeding checkers for spray activities for dengue has been increased to 460 and 50-60 houses surrounding the house from where a case is reported are sprayed with a suitable insecticide.

Dr. Andesh Kang Director Health and Family Welfare Punjab said that awareness activities for the prevention and control of dengue have been stepped up due to upsurge in the cases. She further told that “Every Friday has been declared as Dry day” by the Department of Health and Family Welfare to encourage the community to check stagnation of water at breeding places like empty utensils, flowerpots, tyres, coolers etc. She further added that sensitization of medical and paramedical staff for the effective management of dengue is being undertaken regularly by Government Medical Colleges in the state.

Director Health also said that meetings with stakeholder departments are being organized at State and district levels and participation of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats and Department of Local Bodies has been increased for fogging of Insecticides, larvicides etc. She said that Department of Health and Family Welfare Punjab has collaborated with PGI for research on dengue, sensitivity and specificity of various insecticides and serotyping of different viruses for dengue.

The Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes, on Thursday, has taken suo-moto notice of the casteist remarks against the Chief Minister of the state on social media.

Divulging further, Commission Chairperson Mrs. Tejinder Kaur informed that on a facebook account, the handler had posted the most abusive and casteist remarks about the Chief Minister, Punjab, which went viral on social media.

Taking suo-moto notice of these remarks, the Chairperson has instructed the Director, Bureau of Investigation Punjab to take action under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 and submit a report by September 29, 2021.

 

SANGRUR FARMER HARVESTS 'WEEKLY LOTTERY'

Septuagenarian wins first prize of Rs75 lakh of Punjab State Friday weekly lottery

A farmer of village Gobindpura Papra in Sangrur district has turned lakhpati overnight as he won the first prize of (Rs.75 Lakh) Punjab State Dear 500 Friday weekly lottery.

75-years-old, Mohar Singh said that he has been buying the lottery tickets for around last 20 years and he did not even think in his wildest dreams that one day he will win such a big prize.

After submitting the ticket and required documents to the State Lotteries Department officials here, for encashment of the prize money, the lucky winner hailed the almighty for showering his blessings over him at this old age.

The Lotteries department officials assured the winner that the prize money will be credited to his bank account soon.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT DECIDES TO TRAIN TEACHERS AND LECTURERS

Chandigarh, September 23

To educate the teachers regarding the techniques of teaching, the Punjab school education department has decided to conduct training program of teachers from September 28, 2021.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the school education department said that this training is being imparted to the teachers to strengthen their grip on their subjects. The one day training program of newly recruited 1137 English and 425 Mathematics teachers will be held on September 28. This training will be conducted at the district level. Similarly, a total of 113 newly appointed and promoted Mathematics lecturers will be trained on September 29 and 30 at RICM. Sector 32, Chandigarh.

According to the spokesperson, the officers have been directed to comply the instructions issued by the health department regarding COVID-19 during the training.

Kapurthala, September 23: Punjab Chief Minister Mr Charanjit Singh Channi today said that state of the art museum on name Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr BR Ambedkar will act as a beacon for perpetuating the glorious legacy of Baba sahib amongst our coming generations.
Addressing the gathering after laying the foundation stone of museum and handing over job letters to youth in state level mega job fair here at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, the Chief Minister said that the state government will spend Rs 150 crore on this prestigious project which will be a humble but befitting tribute to the iconic leader. He said that this memorial will go a long in perpetuating the life and philosophy of this great leader who played a great role welfare of poorest of poor. Mr Channi said that this project will be a unique amalgamation of facts in the subjects pertaining to the life, work and philosophy of Dr. Ambedkar.
The Chief Minister further said that this aesthetically designed Museum will be spread over an area of 25 acre and will come up with an investment of about Rs 150 crores. He said that the museum will be divided into five zones with galleries showcasing life, philosophy, work, personal life and socio-economic impact of Baba Sahib’s philosophy. Paying rich tributes to Dr. Ambedkar, Mr. Channi described him as a great scholar, jurist, economist, social reformer and a statesman.
The Chief Minister said that Dr Ambedkar was one of the most towering personalities in the entire world history. He said that though Baba Sahib hailed from a humble family but his outstanding contribution has brought him in the league of global leaders. Mr Channi said that Indian Constitution was an outcome of Dr. Ambedkar’s hard work, dedication and vision adding that Babasaheb was not only leader of weaker sections but he represented the entire humanity.
The Chief Minister said that the philosophy of Baba Sahib Ambedkar enables a person to scale any height in life despite of any adversity. He said that the golden mantra of Baba Sahib to acquire education and excel in life has transformed lives of millions of people. Mr Channi said that he himself is here just because the philosophy of Dr Ambedkar which coupled with hard work has guided his destiny.
Complementing the newly employed youngsters, the Chief Minister said that it is good for them that they have got these jobs but this shall not be their final destination and they have to strive hard for achieving more success in future. He asked the youngsters to take inspiration from Baba Sahib for excelling in life. Mr Channi assured fulsome support and cooperation to youngsters for carving out a new and vibrant Punjab.
The Chief Minister said that his only aim is to make Punjab a prosperous and progressive state for which he will make strenuous efforts. Soliciting support of youth for making Punjab a corruption free state, Mr Channi said that state government will adopt zero tolerance policy towards corruption for which youth needs to play a proactive role. He said that education is the only key to uplift the living standard of weaker and underprivileged sections due to which government is laying major thrust on strengthening education infrastructure in state.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is taking important initiatives in this direction and will soon set up Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Management in collaboration with IIM, Amritsar at Kapurthala. Likewise, he said that School of Ambedkar thoughts and Bharat Ratna Dr Baba Sahib Ambedkar centre for Research in Inequality and Research will also be set up in Doaba region. Similarly, he said that work on two medical Colleges one at Kapurthala and other at Hoshiarpur will also start soon.
Announcing major development projects for Kapurthala, the Chief Minister said that a consolidated grant of Rs 10 crore will be given to Kapurthala along with Rs 4 crore for tackling power wires. He also announced that ITI will be made operational from this session only. Mr Channi also announced a grant of Rs 10 crore for setting up ITI at Sultanpur lodhi.
Earlier, MLA Rana Gurjit Singh, while welcoming the Chief Minister, lauded him for giving this prestigious project to people. He said that it is an apt tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar and a special gift for millions of his followers. Rana Gurjit Singh said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for us that Congress has realised the dream of Dr BR Ambedkar to empower Schedule caste brethren by appointing Mr Channi as Chief Minister of state.
On the occasion Lok Sabha MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa also thanked the Chief Minister.

RC HOLDS MEETING WITH DEPARTMENTAL HEADS TO FACILITATE SMOOTH INTER DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONING

The Resident Commissioner, Punjab Bhawan Mrs. Rakhee Gupta Bhandari held a meeting with the heads of various department of the Punjab Government working in the National Capital here today.

Addressing the meeting, Mrs. Bhandari said that as per the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi to make the functioning the departments more professional and smooth, all the departments of the state government working in Punjab Bhawan should enhance departmental co-ordination for better results.

Mrs. Bhandari also instructed the departments to implement all the instructions being issued by the state government time to time in full spirit and perform in a professional manner. She also sought feedback and suggestions from the departments to enhance the aesthetics and smooth functioning of Punjab Bhawan.
