Haryana Police on Wednesday arrested a person and seized 26.5 kg of opium worth Rs 45 lakh from his possession in Kurukshetra district.
Haryana police spokesperson informed that following specific input that some narcotic drugs would be transported by a car in the district, police intercepted the vehicle bearing Delhi registration number at a check-point at service road towards Ratangarh. Search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 26.5 kg opium.
The arrested accused was identified as Ajit Singh alias Pinder, a resident of Dhakala, Police Station Shahabad.
During interrogation, it was revealed that arrested accused had brought the consignment of drugs from Jharkhand for supplying to another person who is engaged in the drug trade. He used to procure opium from Jharkhand for Anoop alias Bittu and took his commission after delivering it to him.
A case under the provisions of NDPS Act had been registered. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody for eight days. Efforts are on to arrest Anoop. Further probe is underway.
