JASPAL KAUR WINS 3 MEDALS IN MASTERS ATHLETICS

Retired government school teacher Jaspal Kaur has once again brought pride for Abohar by winning three medals in the Masters Athletics Meet.

Jaspal and her husband Gulshinder Singh Jassal, residents of Ekta Colony, have set a record by winning more than a hundred titles by participating in Masters Athletics Meet that were organized across the country. The couple had also participated in several seminars during government service to motivate youths to keep distance from drugs under the “Nashon se door, khelon ki aur” campaign.

 

Under the same series, this time Jaspal Kaur has won three medals in the 42nd Masters Athletics Meet held recently at Sri Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur. She participated in above 70 years of age group and won gold medal one each in Hammer Throw and Discus Throw, also won silver medal in Javelin Throw competition. Last year too she returned to a warm welcome in hometown with three medals.

Earlier Gulshinder participated in the championship that was organised by the Masters Athletics Association at the Rajasthan University playground in Jaipur. He won silver in hammer throw and bronze in javelin throw competitions.

Jaspal’s father Joginder Singh had won a gold medal at the age of 97 years in 100-m race during the Nationals Masters Athletics Meet held in Bangalore in 2012.

The family has been showing tireless dedication, passion and determination towards sports even in the age group of 70 years and brought pride to the city and the region each time.
