THREE-DAY 43RD CHANDIGARH SANGEET SAMMELAN STARTS FIRST DAY LEAVES AUDIENCE MESMERISED

ON NOVEMBER 13, SHASHWATI MANDAL AND SHASHANK MAKTEDAR WILL PRESENT THEIR VOCAL RECITAL

Organised by Indian National Theatre in collaboration with Durga Das Foundation, three-day 43rd Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan took off at Strawberry Field High School auditorium in Sector 26 here. On the first day classical singer Dhananjay Hedge gave a splendid performance and Harvinder Sharma mesmerised the audience with his sitar recital.

Following the tradition of evoking the blessings of goddess Saraswati,the samelan commenced with a beautiful presentation of sarasawait Vandana by talented students of music Madhuchhanda Mitra, Divyashree Sharma and Sulakshana Deb.

Before the first artist started his performance, Shri Anil Nehru the President of the the society addressed the audience.

Dhananjay Hegde started his presentation with Raga Yaman in which he presented the melodious Ek Taal Mein Kehne Sakhi Kaise Ki Kariye, Drut Ek Taal Mein Jaane Nahi Det Mohe Kanha to the audience. He presented Hum Joglio in Raga Jod Madhyalay Rupak. He concluded his rendition by singing Tarana. Dhananjay was accompanied by Jai Dev on the tabla and Paromita Mukherjee on the Harmonium, Tarun and Mohit accompanied him on the Taanpura.

Talented Hindustani classical vocalist, Dhananjay Hegde was born in a musical family. A child prodigy, Dhananjay was identifying the shruthi or musical note of a car horn or temple bell at the age of four. Observing this talent, his parents encouraged him to learn music. He began learning music at the age of four from his mother Geeta Hegde. His father, G.S. Hegde is a well known Tabla player and founder of "SAPTHAK"- a music organization promoting Hindustani Music in Bangalore. Dhananjay is a student of Pandit Vinayak Torvi.

The next artist was Sitarist Pandit Harvinder Kumar Sharma who began with Raag Khamaj, this Raag is one of the ancient time- one of the Thata Raagas and in Imdadkhani Gharana, this Raag has been practiced and played by Six generations of the great maestros.

He started with detailed Alap, in which various shades and beauty of the Raag was exhibited. During the alap ,upholding the tradition of Gayaki ang on Sitar many compositions were beautifully sung n played with improvisations, followed by Jod alap n Jod Jhala.

Traditional slow gat composed by Ustad Inayat Khan was played, followed by some traditional compositions framed by Ustad Imdad Khan, Inyat Khan, Mohamad Khan n Ustad Vilayat Khan were played with layakaries in which he displayed his perfect command on tankari and layakari .

He concluded his recital With Mira bhajan - Payo ji maine Ram Rattan Dhan payo. Pandit Harvinder Kunar Sharma was accompanied by Jai Dev on the tabla.
