DELHI POLICE ARRESTED SANJEEV CHOPRA ON CHEATING 39,241.55 US DOLLARS ON PRETEXT OF SUPPLYING SOYABEEN SEEDS

A Complaint was made by Sh. Satyender Singh Senger stating therein that he entered into contract with the alleged Sanjeev Chopra for supplying 440 MT of Burkina Faso Origin Soyabean Seeds. Alleged person forwarded the photos/videos of containers being loaded and sought more money.

When the three containers arrived at Mumbai Port, they were opened for the purpose of FSSAI inspection and it was revealed that were carrying only 5.9 MT of goods instead of 75 MT (as was mentioned in Bill of Lading). After preliminary enquiry the case was registered and investigation taken up by EOW.

Mr. R.K. Singh, Addl. Commissioner of Police EOW, said, the alleged person entered into contract with the complainant by representing that he had the supplier for providing the desired quantity of goods and received 20680 $ (US Dollars) as advance. Alleged person induced the complainant by sending photos/videos of the containers being stuffed and further received a sum of 11451.55 $. Alleged person further induced the complainant and got 7110 USD transferred directly in the account of supplier of Burkina Faso.

The investigation revealed that weight certificate of the containers was issued based on the photograph and documents provided by the alleged persons. The investigation from the shipping line shows that the sealed containers were handed over to them with declaration of 500 bags per container but only 40 bags were found per container when they arrived at Mumbai port.

On the basis of the meticulous investigation and development of information, a team of Section-II of EOW comprising of SI Lakhan, HC Rajesh Bakshi was constituted under the supervision of ACP Anil Samota and the accused person was arrested.

MODUS OPERANDI:  Accused person entered into contract with the complainant/importer for supplying Burkina Faso origin soyabean seeds. Scanned documents of Bill of Lading along with photos/videos of containers being loaded were forwarded to the complainant for extracting more money. When the containers arrived at the port, they were found containing minimal quantity of goods.

KNOW THE ACCUSED

Sanjeev Chopra (60)  S/o Megh Raj Chopra R/o Sec-46, Gurugram, Haryana, is engaged in the business of import/export for 40 years. He induces the importers by representing that he has the desired quantity/quality of goods.
