PUNJAB GOVT WORKING FOR THE INTELLECTUAL AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE YOUTH: PARGAT SINGH

ARJUNA AWARDEE FLAGS OFF SJT MARATHON ON BAL DIWAS

Punjab Sports and Education Minister Pargat Singh today flagged off the third marathon being organized by Surinder Jakhar Trust on former PM Pt Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary at Abohar.

He said that the Jakhar family has been instrumental in the development of the area and in promoting sports. More than five thousand participants are taking part in this marathon in which the largest number of our children and youth were seen. The excitement of the children was palpable. Ex PCC chief Sunil Jakhar’s positive thinking towards youth welfare was commendable. IFFCO ex-chairman Surinder Jakhar had made an unforgettable contribution in making a drug-free society.  

In the men's 2 km marathon, Sandeep Kumar came first, Ravinder Kumar second and Ankush Kumar third. In the women's 2 km marathon, Khushi came first, Sapna second and Liaz third.In the men's 5 km category, Gagandeep came first, Praveen second and Amarjit third and in the women's category Nainshikha came first, Sanjan second and Diksha third.In the men's 10 km category, Sukhdev Singh came first, Navpreet Singh second and Kulwinder Singh third, while in the women's category, Prabhjot came first, Shreya second and Sanju Bala third.

  

Himself a former hockey Olympian, Pargat Singh said that being healthy is very important for creating a healthy society. “I am very happy to share that Punjab players have won 13 awards in the National Sports Awards given by the Government of India yesterday. Panjab University Chandigarh received the Trophy.

He said that the Punjab govt was constantly working to give the right direction to the youth. We will continue efforts for the intellectual development of our children through education and physical development through sports. Development of infrastructure matters only when the human resources of a region are intellectually and physically strong.

Organiser Sandeep Jakhar welcomed the minister and assured to carry such events in future also.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner of the district Babita Kaler, Commissioner Abohar Municipal Corporation Abhijeet Kaplish, Mayor Vimal Thatai.
