LEGAL SERVICES COMMITTEES RECONSTITUTED

The Punjab Government, in consultation with the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana Court, has appointed members of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority in all the subdivisions. Retired SDM BL Sikka, Social activist Raju Charaya and Retired Principal of LRS DAV Sr Sec Model School Kusum Khungar have been nominated members of the Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee Abohar.

According to Article 39-A of the Constitution of India, the state government has constituted committees in all the subdivisionsto provide justice to the needy people. Efforts are also being made in the judicial system to ensure that no person is deprived of justice due to economic and other reasons.

District Sessions Judge and Chairman of the Authority, Tarsem Mangla informed that the Legal Services Authority Act 1987 came into force on November 9, 1995. The Punjab Legal Services Authority was constituted on October 4, 1996 by the state govt. The Chief Patron of the authority is the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court. CJM cum Secretary Amandeep Singh said that Legal Aid Clinics are also being established in remote villages to provide free legal advice and services to the rural people also.

Abohar Sub-divisional Legal Services Authority Chairman SDJM Harpreet Singh held a meeting with the recently appointed members. He said that the Authority would be ready to provide legal services to the people with the help of panel lawyers, para legal volunteers, students, teachers, panches, sarpanches, representatives of social organizations, doctors, government and non-government employees, police and administration.
