Abohar (Face2News).

A Voter Awareness Rally will be organised on Sunday by Congress workers to bring awareness to voters to exercise their right of polling.

Akhil Bhartiya SC Yuvjan Samaj state president Gopi Chand Sander, who will be here to lead the rally, said that polling percentage in Abohar, Balluana and other neighbouring constituencies in the previous civic body, Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections had been about 55 to 60 percent which means at least one third of the eligible electors chose to skip giving mandate in favour of any political party. This, he said, was not a good sign for the health of any democratic country. “We have decided to motivate people to exercise their right of vote judiciously at any cost and prove to be responsible citizens, '' he added.

Sander said that the voter awareness rally will be started on Sunday at 11 from Balluana village on the NH 10, the same will pass through main roads and disperse at 1 pm after reaching Shri Khatu Shyam Mandir near the Alamgarh bypass.

City Congress president Mohan Lal Thatai said people in other advanced, developed countries enthusiastically cast their votes but in India participation of electorate in most of the constituencies have unfortunately been poor. This benefitted vested interests, even candidates having criminal background manage to win because millions of right-thinking people avoid visiting polling booths even when it was necessary for them to give perfect mandate. Congress workers have been told to pursue eligible youth get their names added to the voters list and then launch awareness drive to ensure more and more people visit the polling booths in coming Vidhan Sabha polls.
