Led by the PFUCTO, teachers across 5 universities, 48 govt. colleges and 145 aided colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh will court arrest on Nov 30 and go on an indefinite fast led by their President, Prof. H.S.Kingra from Dec 1.

This will be accompanied by an indefinite daily strike from thereon. Thereafter all academic activities including conduct of end semester examinations will be boycotted until their demands of implementation of the revised UGC pay-scales and withdrawal of decision on delinking of their scales are announced. There will be a complete ‘Education Bandh’ from thereon. The Principals’ Associations of GNDU, PU and Pbi. Univ. have also extended their support to the protest programme.

Prof. H.S.Kingra, President and Dr Jagwant Singh, General Secretary, PFUCTO in a joint statement said that the delay in the notification of their pay-scales is a breach of trust. He said that all cadres of employees have been given revised scales since 1.1.2016 and the teachers in higher education are the only ones still awaiting pay-revision.

This is a gross injustice to them. All other states had implemented the new UGC pay-scales for their teachers. The teachers of Punjab and Chandigarh were the only ones still awaiting the implementation of the UGC pay-scales.

The All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organization (AIFUCTO) has expressed solidarity with their counterparts in Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
