HARYANA: 7.87-KG OF POPPY HUSK SEIZED FROM COTTON-LADEN TRUCK, ONE HELD

Haryana Police has arrested an Uttar Pradesh resident after 7.87 quintals of poppy husk was recovered from his truck in Palwal district during the night domination drive.

Sharing the details, a Haryana Police spokesperson informed that the estimated value of the seized consignment is worth Rs 2-crore and it was headed for Punjab.

During the night domination drive, Police got a tip off that a huge consignment of narcotics was being brought towards Punjab in a truck from Uttar Pradesh side.

As soon as the information was received, the police started a thorough check of the vehicles by establishing naka near the Karman border. In the meantime, the police signaled a truck to stop for checking, and nabbed the driver, who tried to escape. While the truck had cotton bags loaded in the main body, a special compartment was built inside the truck in which huge haul of narcotics were hidden. When searched, 39 bags weighing 7.87 quintals of poppy husk were recovered.

During the interrogation, arrested accused, identified as Naseem of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, revealed that he had left for Sangrur in Punjab after loading the consignment from near Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh and Pratapgarh in Rajasthan.

A car was also piloting the vehicle in which three youths are said to be on board. A hunt has been launched and all the accused will soon be arrested.

The arrested driver has been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the matter is being investigated.
