SIGH OF RELIEF TO DELHI POLICE: SENSATIONAL BLIND MOLESTATION CASE OF JNU STUDENT WORKED OUT

JOINT TEAM OF AATS, SPECIAL STAFF AND PS VASANT KUNJ NORTH, OF SOUTH WEST DISTRICT SOLVED CASE, ONE ARRESTED WITH ROBBED MOBILE,SCOOTY USED IN COMMISSION OF THE CRIME RECOVERED, AROUND 1000 CCTV CAMERAS SUBJECTED TO TECHNICAL ANALYSIS FOR TRACING OUT THE CRIMINAL

The joint team of AATS, Special Staff and PS Vasant Kunj North of South West District under the supervision of Sh. Gaurav Sharma, DCP South West has cracked the sensational blind molestation case of a PhD JNU Student with the arrest of accused namely Akshay Dolai, age- 27 years. The robbed mobile phone of the complainant and the scooty used in commission of the crime have been recovered from the possession/instance of accused Akshay Dolai.

INCIDENT: On the intervening night of 17-18/01/2022, at 00:42 Hours, a PCR call was received at PS Vasant Kunj North, regarding molestation of a student of JNU within JNU Campus by one unknown person. The staff rushed to the spot and met the complainant X who stated that while she was jogging at VC Residence Road, one scooty stopped in front of her and the rider tried to molest her. It was further alleged that after trying to molest, the accused person drove off after with victim’s mobile phone. Accordingly, a case was registered at PS Vasant Kunj North and investigation was taken up.

TEAM AND INVESTIGATION: 

Sensing the gravity of the offence, dedicated joint teams of AATS, Special Staff and PS Vasant Kunj North of South West District were constituted immediately. Initially, challenge before the police was to identify the two wheeler of offender as there were no entries of two wheelers at entry gates of JNU by security staff of JNU.

Mr. Gaurav Sharma, IPS, DCP, South West Distt., on sustained interrogation, the accused Akshay, married having two children works in a mobile shop at Bhikaji Kama Place, RK Puram, Delhi. He hails from 24 South Pargana, West Bengal. On 17/01/2022 after consuming liquor, accused entered into the JNU campus irked by quarrel he had on that day with his wife. In utter frustration, he started wandering on his scooty inside JNU campus and saw a girl alone jogging towards east Gate. He stopped the girl and attempted to molest her but when she tried to call the police using her mobile phone, he took her phone and ran away on his scooty from the spot. 

The teams comprising of Insp. Rajesh Malik IC/ AATS SW Distt. & Special Staff, Insp. Surya Prakash SHO/PS Vasant Kunj North, Insp. Vipin Kumar, SI Gautam Malik, SI Sandeep Yadav, SI Anuj Kumar, SI Vivek, SI Rajeshwar, ASI Krishan, ASI Narender, ASI Praveen, HC Kamal, HC Hariom, HC Birender, Ct Ravinder, Ct Sandeep, Ct Akash, Ct Nitin, Ct Shiv Dayal, Ct Vipin, Ct Rahul and Ct Satyawan led by Sh. Abhinandra Jain, ACP/Ops & Sh. Ajay Vedwal ACP/Vasant Kunj under the overall supervision of Sh. Gaurav Sharma DCP/SWD was constituted to nab the culprit. The police team checked and analysed the footages of around 1000 cameras installed at JNU campus, Baba Gang Nath Marg, entire Nelson Mandela Road, Asaf Ali Road, entire stretch of Outer Ring Road encompassing South West district and Munirka.

The JNUSU was protesting continuously and mounting over police. The accused was trailed from JNU Campus to Nelson Mandela Marg to Outer Ring Road and finally to Munirka Village. Further extensive technical surveillance of the spot as well as suspected route was also undertaken.

Finally the accused has been identified as Akshay Dolai S/o Lalu Dolai, r/o Munirka Village and nabbed by the team. The robbed mobile of complainant has also been recovered at his instance. The white colour scooty, used in the commission of the offence has also recovered from his possession. Further investigation of the case is in progress.

This sensational blind case was solved with promptness and timely action of South west Distt. It is an appeal to JNUSU to cooperate the local police in making the campus , which is not patrolled by local police, more secure collectively.
