Hindu community is reportedly concerned regarding reported damage to Hindu Temple of Eastern Washington (West Richland, Washington).

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that it was saddening for the Hindu community to hear about such incident happening to Hindu house of worship; thus reportedly causing heartbreak to the hard-working, harmonious and peaceful Hindu community. US Hindus had made a lot of contributions to the nation and society and continued to do so; Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, noted.

Hindu Temple of Eastern Washington is a place of worship and community gatherings, and it promotes and spreads “awareness about the rich Hindu culture”. It celebrates festivals, performs bhajans-cultural events-pujas regularly, undertakes educational activities, etc. Temple opens daily except fourth Saturday. It plans to celebrate Maha Shivaratri festival on February 28. Shutthanandan Vaithiyalingam and Satyanarayana Molakkalu are Board President and Priest respectively.

Zed urged West Richland Mayor Brent Gerry to take this issue seriously and urgently and launch swift action to put an end to such crimes and make sure that such incidents did not happen in the future. He also urged Gerry to visit the damaged temple and meet the Hindu community of Eastern Washington to reassure them.

Rajan Zed further said that as an interfaith gesture; Bishop Thomas Daly of Roman Catholic Diocese of Spokane, Bishop Gretchen Rehberg of Episcopal Diocese of Spokane and area leaders of other religions should strongly condemn such acts at places of worship and also visit the affected temple to show their solidarity with the Hindu community.
