A team of Special Cell, Southern Range led by Inspr. Shiv Kumar & Inspr. Karamvir Singh supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested a notorious gangster of dreaded gang being run by Rohit Chaudhary, Ravi Gangwal and Shakti Naidu after an exchange of fire on 14/05/2022 at about 10 PM near Asian market, backside of CRPF camp in sector 3, Pushp Vihar, Delhi.
Arrested gangster is Sunil Raj @ Kumar Sunil @ Kala Andaa (37) s/o Silva Raj @ Silva r/o House No. C/283. Dakshinpuri, Delhi. He has been arrested after a brief exchange of fire on the above said place. In said exchange of fire, Sunil Raj got injured in his right leg. One semi automatic pistol of .32 bore with 3 live cartridges has been recovered from possession of accused. A Honda Activa scooty has also been recovered from accused at the spot.
Team of Special Cell was tracking the movements of above fugitive gangster Sunil Raj for the last one month. On 14.05.2022, a specific information was received by Inspr. Shiv Kumar about coming of Sunil Raj upon a Scooty to meet one of his assiciates near Asian market backside of CRPF camp in sector 3 Pushp Vihar to meet one of his associates between 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM on 14.05.2022. A raiding team led by him was formed and a trap was laid near above mentioned spot.
At about 10 PM, Sunil Raj was spotted coming on said Honda activa scooty and going towards Asian Market. He was signaled by the members of police team to stop and surrender but instead of stopping, he dropped his scooty and fired two rounds towards the members of police party. Members of police team also fired a shoot in self defense to overpower him in which Sunil Raj was injured in his left leg. He was immediately rushed to Safdarjung hospital.
Total 3 rounds were fired from both sides i.e. 2 by the accused and 1 by the police team in self defense. A semi-automatic pistol of .32 with 3 live cartridges was recovered from the accused Sunil Raj at the spot. Three empties were seized from the spot. A case under appropriate sections of the law was registered in PS Special Cell in this regard.
BACKGROUND & CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Jasmeet Singh, DCP, Special Cell/SR & Narco Terror , said, Sunil Raj is a dreaded gangster previously involved/arrested in more than 10 criminal cases of heinous nature including 2 of murder, 5 of attempt to murder, one of MCOCA and others of assault on police and judges, hurt, criminal intimidation, robbery, riots, arms act etc. in Delhi during the last 10 years. Sunil Raj was granted bail by the courts in his pending trial cases on medical grounds in Sept 2021 but he did not surrender on the given date and absconded.

Various courts have initiated proceedings against him to declare him Proclaimed Offender in these pending trial criminal cases by issuing NBWs against him. In a road rage, Sunil Raj with his three associates riding on their two bikes had assaulted three judges and driver going in a car on BRT corridor road in the area of PS Ambedkar Nagar on 17/05/2012 as car had brushed aside one of their bikes. Despite disclosing the identity of judges, Sunil Raj and his associates had assaulted them with stones and bricks. One of the judges and their driver got serious head injuries. Sunil Raj and his 3 associates were later on convicted for 7 years in that case after trial. Sunil Raj is also convicted in two more cases including one of murder, attempt to murder and other of assault in Delhi.
Sunil Raj with his associates is previously involved in sensational 6 shootouts in Delhi resulting in two murders and causing gun-shot injuries in other 4 cases. Presently, Sunil Raj was working for Rohit Chaudhary and Ravi Gangwal gang in the area of south Delhi in demanding extortion, collecting money from satta operators, builders, realtors, property dealers at behest of their gang leaders.
In order to curb the criminal activities of Sunil Raj and other members of the gang, he along with associates including his own brother Anil Raj and kingpin Ravi Gangwal were booked in a case FIR under MCOCA registered in in PS Ambedkar Nagar in the year 2018.Further investigation of case is in progress.
