GANG OF FOUR AMONG TWO WOMEN INVOLVED IN THEFT OF MOBILE PHONES & CASH FROM PILGRIMS APPREHENDED

RS. 57910/- CASH & 42 MOBILE HANDSETS RECOVERED.

On the input received from GRP Haridwar, a team of PS New Delhi Railway Station has arrested four accused persons (including two women) involved in a theft case registered vide FIR No. 0029/2022 u/s 379 IPC dt. 25.05.2022 at PS GRP, Haridwar, Uttrakhand.

On the intervening night of 24-25.05.2022, the above said case was registered on the complaint of one passenger namely M.Vinagamoorihy r/o Greater Chennai, Tamilnadu. He alleged that he along with his family members, came to Haridwar for Chaardhaam pilgrimage.

On completion of their pilgrimage, they reached Haridwar Railway station for the return journey. While boarding the train they noticed that the purses of the three female family members have been cut and their mobile phones and some cash have been stolen by someone. On the complaint, the said case was registered and investigation was taken up.

Mr. Harendra K. Singh, IPS, DCP, Railways, said, wasting no time, the police of PS New Delhi Railway Station swung into action and immediately a team was constituted. As soon as the Train No. 12018 (Dehradun Shatabdi) reached NDRS, the team intercepted the gang, who initially tried to dodge but on sustained interrogation, all the four accused persons confessed their involvement in the above said case of theft. All of them hail from Andhra Pradesh. Further, on their search, a total of 42 stolen mobile phones and Rs.57,910/- cash have been recovered.

OPERATION:

The Haridwar police analyzed the CCTV footage and noticed the suspicious activity of four persons (including 2 women) in a group. SI Anuj Singh from GRP/Haridwar telephonically requested Insp. Rajesh Maurya, SHO/NDRSfor help in nabbing the gang, who were purportedly seen in the Dehradun Shatabadi, scheduled to reach New Delhi Railway Station at about 2300 hrs.

MODUS OPERANDI: On sustained interrogation the accused persons revealed that during the months of April to June, a lot of people make visit to various religious places in North India especially in Uttrakhand. Hence, they also used to visit these places in the garb of pilgrims in the trains and used to steal any sort of electronic items especially mobiles and cash from baggage of the passengers.

PROFILE OF THE ACCUSED PERSONS: Mahesh Babu S/o Adhi Narayan R/o Near Ayappa Temple, Mangalagiri, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Age-26 years. Tarun Anil s/o Apparao R/o Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Age-22 years., two women namely Mangamma w/o Adhi Narayan Age-45 years., Tarun Ankamma R/o Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Age-50 years.

All the above accused persons along with the recovered items and cash have been handed over to Haridwar Police for further investigation.
