CCI SEEKS IMPLEMENTATION OF MSME ACT , ONE TIME VAT SETTLEMENT & WITHDRAWAL OF BUILDING VIOLATION & MISUSE NOTICES TO INDUSTRIAL UNIT OWNERS, IMPLEMENTATION OF MSME ACT WILL GIVE A BOOST TO INDUSTRIES IN CHANDIGARH: CCI PRESIDENT

To further accelerate the pace of revenue and employment generation along with other multiple direct and indirect benefits, the Chamber of Chandigarh Industries (CCI), the apex body of industrial units in the City Beautiful, has sought the implementation of MSME Act in the city , one time VAT settlement for industries and withdrawal of building violation & misuse notices to industrial unit owners.  

Having detailed deliberations on the issues during an Executive Committee meeting, the CCI has now pinned its hope on the Chandigarh Administration, expecting favourable decisions at the earliest. 

Surinder Gupta, CCI president, said: “The implementation of MSME Act in Chandigarh will give a big boost to local industries. It has been a long pending demand of ours. The Chandigarh Administration must respond to our demands favourably. It will help us contribute significantly to make India a $ 5 trillion economy and in ease of doing business as has been envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” 

“Also the city's industries should be given the relief through one time VAT settlement, which has become a major issue for us ever since the GST came into force. It should be done in a time bound manner as the earliest to give much needed relief to the industrial units,” added Gupta. 

Abhishek Verma, General Secretary, CCI, said that the withdrawal of building violation & misuse notices to industrial unit owners were agreed upon in the meeting held on 27-04-2022 under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, U.T., Chandigarh. Also as a matter of principle, the need based changes in industrial premises have already been recognized vide notification dated 25.02.2019.

Verma added, "The changes made within the premises of the industrial units should not be classified as 'Building Violations' as these are need based changes essentially required for production purposes. The Chandigarh Administration should forthwith withdraw these notices as the same has already been agreed to by the DC but not implemented yet." 

CCI president Gupta further informed that the CCI has written to the Excise and Taxation Commissioner, UT, Chandigarh umpteen times with the request for one-time assessment of VAT cases pertaining to trade and industry on the analogy of Punjab government notification.

 Similarly, for all assessment cases in Chandigarh, the implementation should be done as in neighbouring state of Punjab in order to settle the long pending VAT assessment cases of industrial units since 2014-15, he said. He added that on the one hand, the industries are stuck up with the assessment cases and on the other, the Chandigarh Administration is not getting the revenue because of hold up of assessment cases.
