NO PROVISION FOR CROPS DAMAGED BY WHITE FLY

 Face2News/Abohar.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar has said that hundreds of farmers in dozens of villages in Abohar segment suffered losses worth crores of rupees due to rain and hailstorm in the month of July, the scope of compensating them seem to be dim as damage done by white fly caused due to the bad weather has not been covered in it.

In a letter issued by the local tehsildar on August 8, citing the instructions of the sub-divisional magistrate, the patwaris were asked to immediately survey the villages affected by hailstorm due to heavy rains and complete the work of special girdawari of crops so that the way was cleared for compensation to the affected families.

While visiting some of the villages in Abohar constituency today, MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that 80 per cent of Narma cotton crop has been damaged due to white fly attack. Ignoring this, while framing the policy, the state government has decided that compensation will be given to those farmers who had to uproot the Narma cotton crop and were sowing paddy in its place.

In September 2015, when white fly attacked Narma Cotton crop, the then Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar raised this issue prominently and then Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced a compensation of Rs 600 crore, but the present AAP government was not ready to understand the plight of the farmers, the attack by white fly has been ignored. Special girdawari must cover the farmers who have been ruined by white fly.

There is no sufficient water available in the villages of Abohar region, how do farmers plant paddy? In most of the villages, the rain water is no longer standing, so the farmers will be deprived of compensation. The area of Diwankhera village alone is around 4,000 acres.

He said that farmers have told him that they used to start harvesting Narma cotton around August 15, but this time the white fly attack has ruined the crop. No compensation was announced for this.
MLA said that five months have passed but the entire focus of the AAP-led govt has been on self-deprecating propaganda.
