Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today lashed out at Sunil Jakhar for betraying the party and sabotaging its prospects during February Vidhan Sabha elections.

Addressing a public meeting on the last leg of the six-day long Tiranga Yatra here today, Warring also challenged Jakhar’s nephew, Sandeep Jakhar to resign from the party and get fresh mandate from people if he was so confident about their support in Abohar.

The PCC president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring lauded the overwhelming enthusiasm among the party cadres over the Tiranga Yatra. “I salute your loyalty towards the party and the nation”, he told a largely attended public meeting, adding for the people of Abohar it was double celebration as besides the seventy-fifth independence day celebration, they had also got freedom from Jakhars who had otherwise completely grabbed the Congress party as if they had got a lifetime lease.

He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for making the Independence Day celebrations partisan. He said, ideally the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have called an all party meeting and announced a non-partisan national programme to celebrate seventyfive years of independence.

“But the BJP believes it has exclusive right over nationalism”, he remarked, while asserting that the BJP can never match the contribution of the Congress party towards the nation and nationalism.

Speaking on the occasion senior Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa congratulated people of Abohar for remaining loyal to the Congress. He said, those who had deserted the party will soon realize their mistake as they will not be accepted by anyone anywhere. He assured the workers that the party will always stand by them and will support each and every worker. Among others present on the occasion included former MP Sher Singh Gubaya, former MLA Devinder Singh Gubaya and others.

Today marked the conclusion of the six-day long Tiranga Yatra across Punjab. The party leaders took out a 75 kms yatra in each district to mark the 75 years of independence. The yatra got an overwhelming response in each of the 117 segments where it was organized.
