DELHI CRIME BRANCH NABS NOTORIOUS INTERSTATE CHEAT AND AUTO-LIFTER

ACCUSED HAS CHEATED MORE THAN 100 INNOCENT PEOPLE IN DELHI, UP AND HARYANA ON THE PRETEXT OF MONEY CHANGE TO LOWER DENOMINATIONS

The team of ARSC, Crime Branch, Shakarpur, led by Inspr. Arun Sindhu & Insp K.K. Sharma under the supervision of Sh. Arvind Kumar, ACP/ ARSC, has arrested one Auto Lifter and Cheat namely Mohit Chawla, Age-27 Years R/O Distt Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh on August 16.
 
On 05 April 2022, an incident of Car Theft (DL4CAU9327) was reported in the area PS – Rajouri Garden, Delhi. The owner of the said vehicle was continuously receiving messages/notices of over-speeding challan of Delhi/NCR area on her registered mobile number. it was noticed that the stolen car with the same original registration plate was roaming in Delhi/NCR. The task was assigned to ARSC, Crime Branch, Delhi to nab the accused with the stolen car. 

The team ARSC, Crime Branch started working on this case. The accused was last spotted in GIP Mall, Noida, UP. A lot of technical and manual information was collected including dump analysis of main sites, and analysis of CCTV footages. FASTAG details have also been collected as the criminal issued new FASTAG on the same R/C using mobile number of an unknown person.

Based on the specialized technical investigation conducted by the team of Inspector Arun Sindhu and Insp K. K. Sharma under the supervision of Sh. Arvind Kumar, ACP/ ARSC, one suspected person was identified, and this lead was further developed. On 16.08.22 based on the zeroed location a team comprising of SI Vikrant, HC Bhupender, HC Nitin, HC Kuldeep, HC Arvind, HC Gaurav, HC Suneet, HC Jitender, and HC Devender was immediately rushed to Sec -63, Noida, UP. On searching the vehicle in Chijarshi, Sec-63, Noida, UP the vehicle was spotted near Sec-62, Noida, acting swiftly the team of ARSC overpowered the accused. 

Mohit Chawla is a habitual cheat and Auto-Lifter. He is permanent resident of Najibabad, Distt- Bijnore, UP. His father expired in the year 2014. He has studied Polytechnique from Najibabad. He came to Delhi in year 2020 in search of job. He started stealing vehicles to earn quick money. He was arrested in year 2020 in a case of Car-Theft and thereafter got arrested in multiple theft cases in 2021. He recently came out of jail in the month of Jan 2022.

Mr. Rohit Meena, IPS, DCP, Crime Branch, said, during interrogation accused Mohit disclosed that in Feb 2021, he stole a car from Rajouri Garden Parking by taking keys from parking attendant posing himself as car owner. He was arrested in that case and remained in jail up to Jan 2022. He was released from jail on 11 Jan 2022. After his release from jail, he stole another car No. DL4SAU9327 from another Car Parking in Rajouri Garden using same modus operandi. While stealing the current vehicle he went to a mall in Rajouri Garden and confidently ordered the parking attendant to give the keys and asked him to bring him paan by giving him Rs 500. And then he ran away with the vehicle.

To earn his livelihood, he again stole a car from the area of PS Rajouri Garden and started cheating with shopkeepers on the pretext of providing lower denomination currency like Rs. 10 or Rs. 20/. He disclosed to have cheated more than 100 shops and showrooms in this way in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad area after coming out of jail in April 2022.

INTERROGATION & MODUS OPERANDI:  Mr. Rohit Meena, IPS, DCP, Crime Branch, said, during interrogation accused Mohit disclosed that in Feb 2021, he stole a car from Rajouri Garden Parking by taking keys from parking attendant posing himself as car owner. He was arrested in that case and remained in jail up to Jan 2022. He was released from jail on 11 Jan 2022. After his release from jail, he stole another car No. DL4SAU9327 from another Car Parking in Rajouri Garden using same modus operandi.

After stealing the vehicle, he got involved in more than 100 small amount cheatings. Some of the modus operandi disclosed by him during interrogation are as follows:

While stealing the current vehicle he went to a mall in Rajouri Garden and confidently ordered the parking attendant to give the keys and asked him to bring him paan by giving him Rs 500. And then he ran away with the vehicle.

On another occasion he went to Dawaat e Biryani and ate handful of Biryani. After that while making payment, he told the shopkeeper that he has smaller denomination notes in vehicle which they might be requiring in day-to-day affairs and told the shopkeeper to send help and get it collected from the vehicle. Thereafter he used to take the help in vehicle and after taking cash he used to run away.

Similarly, he went to liquor store, drycleaners, small vegetable vendors, cosmetic shops, general store, shops in malls and used similar modus operandi. Sometimes he used to tell the help or person accompanying fictious addresses in buildings and leave the person in society telling he is parking the vehicle. He was careful enough to cheat smaller amounts in range of Rs 10,000- 20,000 to avoid hot chase and improvised the modus operandi every time so that to confuse people and target the same place.

Buoyed by his success he got 2 aces printed on the stolen vehicle. He disclosed that he is having 5-6 girlfriends and to meet his expenses, he started to cheat people.

Concerned Police Stations have been informed to take necessary action. Team has contacted further complainants in Indirapuram. Hauz Khas, Khan Market, Noida Sec 130, GIP Mall. Pandav Nagar and further investigation is underway.
