CENTRAL JAIL INMATE LEVELED ALLEGATIONS ON JAIL AUTHORITIES FOR “BRANDING”, BOOKED

The central jail authorities have got the FIR lodged against an undertrial Tarsem Singh son of Satnam Singh, resident of Village Mirjapur in Kapurthala district, an inmate who had raised an alarm regarding the word “gangster” scribed on his back with a hot iron rod. The police has booked the Tarsem under 42 Prisons Act at city police station (FIR No. 304 Dated 17.08.2022).

Tarsem has been booked following a complaint lodged by the jail officials to the SSP.

Jail official said that on August 10, Tarsem was produced in the court of Rakesh Kumar, Additional Sessions Judge Kapurthala through VC during which the accused had sought permission for the medical checkup. The court had given the permission regarding the medical checkup through mail on August 12.

As per the jail authorities, during the medical checkup, it came to the notice of the jail officials that the word “Gangster” scribed on the back of undertrial Tarsem. On August 12, his medical checkup was done at Ferozepur civil hospital.

Yesterday Tarsem had alleged during his medical examination at civil hospital Kapurthala that the jail officials had scribed the word “Gangster” on his back with a hot iron rod. The video of the incident was recorded by an unidentified person which was later went viral on social media.

It is pertinent to mention here that the accused Tarsem had been booked in an Arms Act case (25, 54, 59 Arms Act besides Sections 399, 402, 307, 148, 149 IPC) at Dhilwan police station in Kapurthala (FIR No. 23 Dated 27.03.2017). Besides, he has been booked 15 other cases.
