MAHATMA GANDHI PEACE CELEBRATED INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

Mahatma Gandhi Peace Club of Institute of Educational Technology and Vocational Education, Panjab University on Wednesday celebrated International Day of Peace on the Theme: "End Racism, Build Peace" with great enthusiasm and fervour.

On this Occasion Dr. Kanwalprect Kaur (Event coordinator) welcome the faculty and students. In her address she said that Racism continues to poison Institutions, social structures, and everyday life in every society. It continues to be a driver of persistent inequality. And it continues to deny people their fundamental human rights. It destabilizes societies, undermines democracies, erodes the legitimacy of governments.

Dr. Kalpana Thakhur, Chairperson, IETVE appreciated the efforts of the students and said "a peaceful society is one where there is harmony between the different institutions and equal opportunities for everyone. Peace will enable a sustainable environment to take shape and a sustainable environment will help promote peace".

She emphasised Instead of fighting each other, we should be working to defeat our true enemies: racism, poverty, inequality, conflict, the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic. Poster making and slogan writing competitions were organised on the theme "End Racism and Build Peace". Student participated in large number. Later name of the winners of the different activities were announced.

Muskan Gupta, Pragya Gupta and Jaismeen Kaur won the first, second and third prizes in poster making competition. In slogan writing competition Kanak, Bhumika and Simran Rawat won the first, second and third prizes. Students recited poems, gave speeches, presentations and presented skits highlighting the different aspects of Racism and discriminations occurring across the World. The response of the students was overwhelming for this event.
