After the death of 66 Children in West African Country of Gambia, on diagnosing cough syrup made by the Indian pharma an alert has also been issued in Himachal Pradesh.

On the instructions of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has sent information to the Drug Department of all the states of the country including Himachal Pradesh. While alerting the Himachal Drug Department, DCGI has instructed to keep a special eye on four products.

Two of the Indian pharma companies in the Gambia, whose children died after consuming cough syrup, are running in Baddi and Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh. Cough syrup is made in these plants or other medicines?

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the plant of Medine Pharmaceutical Limited, which supplied cough syrup in The Gambia, is made in Kundli of Sonipat district in Haryana. This company also has a unit in Manpura village of Baddi.

On Thursday, as soon as the Central Government's alert was received, the team of Himachal's Drug Department raided the company's unit in Baddi. The team examined all the products made here including the license of the industry. During this it was found that at present the production at the company's Baddi unit is closed.

The Drug Department was informed about the closure of this unit in February-2022 due to construction. During the raid, the Drug Department, apart from checking the documents of the unit, also filled samples of the products made here. However, the team got only the liquid syrup before February-2022 here. Its samples were sent for examination.

During investigation, it was found that these four products are not being produced here.
