Manoj Chahal, State President of Roadways SC Employees Sangharsh Samiti of Haryana, today alleged that following caste discrimination and oppressive policy towards the organization and employees, former GM of Rohtak Depot, on the behest of Transport Director, Haryana, conspired against the office bearers of the Sangharsh Samiti and implicated them in false cases. Hundreds of Scheduled Caste employees of Haryana Roadways announced to boycott of the festival of Diwali in protest against the oppression. They also threatened to tender mass resignations to the Chief Minister of Haryana if their demands were not met.

In a press conference at Chandigarh Press Club, the leader said that on the call of Roadways SC Employees Sangharsh Samiti of Haryana, the scheduled caste employees of roadways remained on duty to run the buses in the interest of the government and public, during the strike on 28-29 March. As a result of which the striking employees of the Sanjha Morcha humiliated the SC employees by putting strings of shoes around their necks, while in Palwal, due to the bus operation, the striking employees tried to burn these drivers alive by pouring diesel on them. Criminal cases were registered by the police in these cases. But, now some leaders of Sanjha Morcha, in connivance with the director, are pressurizing the representatives of Roadways SC Employees Sangharsh Samiti of Haryana to withdraw the case or face the false cases.

Chahal alleged that if the higher officials of the department have to cooperate with the striking employees, then why are SC employees being targeted, why are our lives being put at risk. He said that we have given a complaint against the casteist attitude of the Director Transport Department, Sector 3, Chandigarh, but the police and the government were not taking any action. On the other hand, Vikas Narwal, former general manager of Rohtak depot, defaced our union office board. The SC employees are being exploited and harassed by the officials of the Transport Department for misusing their position.

Chahal said that the policy of vendetta and caste malpractices is being adopted by some officials of the Transport Department against the employees of the Scheduled Castes. A condition is being placed before the union office bearers that the cases registered against them in Rohtak will continue until the cases registered against their harassment by the Scheduled Caste employees were withdrawn. A meeting of the union executive body was convened in Chandigarh today to chalk out the strategy of the movement and take a decisive decision.

He demanded action against Virendra Dahiya, Director of State Transport, and Vikas Narwal, former General Manager, Rohtak Depot.

Sandeep Kumar said that due to the casteist attitude of the transport department officials, it is becoming difficult for the scheduled caste employees to do their official duty. The officials of the department are threatening to spoil their service record. It would be better if the employees submited their resignations to the Hon'ble Chief Minister. He also demanded reservation in promotion to the Scheduled Caste employees and filling the backlog from 17 June 1995.

In the meeting, Vijay Kumar Mayaram (Yamunanagar), Gurmeet Singh (Karnal), Mehar Singh Sandeep (Rohtak), Satish Kumar, Satpal Singh (Kurukshetra), Gurdas Sirohi, Jasmer Raj Kapoor, Sanjeev Phule (Faridabad), Sher Singh (Hisar), Suraj Bhan (Jhajjar), Rajesh Shastri (Kaithal), Anand (Sirsa), Rajpal Garva, Raman Kumar and many other employees from all the districts were present.
