SUKHU SWORN IN AS HIMACHAL CM AND MUKESH AGNIHOTRI AS DEPUTY CM

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh at a grand ceremony held at The Ridge, Shimla.The Governor also administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mukesh Agnihotri as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state on the occasion.

National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Senior National Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Himachal Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajeev Shukla, Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Senior National Congress leader Mukul Wasnik, former Union Ministers Pawan Bansal and Anand Sharma, State Congress President Pratibha Singh, senior Congress leaders Randeep Surjewala, Jitendra Bittu and Sachin Pilot, family members of Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, MLAs, other senior Congress leaders, senior officials and Himachal A large number of people from different regions of the state were present on the occasion.

Senior leaders of the Congress party paid floral tributes to the portrait of former Chief Minister late Virbhadra Singh on the occasion.

Biography of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu

Shri Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, son of Late Shri Rasil Singh, was born on 27 March, 1964 at Nadaun, District Hamirpur. He has done M.A., L.L.B. He is educated and he is married to Mrs. Kamlesh Thakur. He has two daughters.

He was the class representative of Government Graduate College Sanjauli Shimla in the years 1981-82 and 1982-83. In the year 1983-1984 he was elected General Secretary of Government Graduate College Sanjauli, Shimla and in the year 1984-85 elected President of Government Degree College Sanjauli.

During the year 1985-86, he was the Departmental Representative of the Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University and was the President of the State Youth Congress during the year 1989-95. From the year 1995-1998, he was the General Secretary of the State Youth Congress, from the year 1998-2008, he was the President of the State Youth Congress. From 1992-97 and 1997-2002, he was elected Councilor of Municipal Corporation Shimla twice. From 2008 to 2012, he became the General Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee and on January 8, 2013, became the President of the Pradesh Congress Committee.

He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly in the year 2003 and 2007. He was the chief whip of the Congress Legislature Party from 2007-12.

Shri Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu was elected as MLA for the third time in December, 2017 and nominated as Member, Consultative Committees on Public Undertakings, Privileges and Business.

In December 2022, he has been re-elected to the state assembly for the fourth time and today took over as the chief minister.

Biography of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri

Shri Mukesh Agnihotri was born on 9th October, 1962 in the house of Late Shri Omkar Chand Sharma. He originally belongs to village and post office Gondpur, district Una. He has completed B.Sc, Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising and M.Sc in Mathematics. He is married to Mrs. Simmi Agnihotri and they have a daughter.

He worked in various reputed newspapers of the country for about 15 years. He is a member of the Press Accreditation Committee of the Government of Himachal Pradesh, a member of the State Press Advisory Committee, H.P. He has been a member of the Press Gallery Committee of the Legislative Assembly and a member of the State Government's Pahari Language Committee. In addition, he has been the Press Club, Shimla, General Secretary of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee and General Secretary of Media Cell of Pradesh Congress Committee.

In March 2003, he was elected to the state assembly for the first time from Santokhgarh (now Haroli) assembly. After that, he was elected as a member of the state assembly for the fifth time in the years 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022.

Shri Mukesh Agnihotri was appointed Chief Parliamentary Secretary from 2003 to 2005 and Chairman, Housing Board, Government of Himachal Pradesh. During his tenure from December 2012 to 2017, he served as Minister of Industries, Labor and Employment, Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Public Relations Department of the state. From 2017 to 2022, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the House.

In December 2022, he was re-elected to the 14th Legislative Assembly and took over as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
