GHAZAL KING JAGJIT SINGH’S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED

The 82nd birthday of Ghazal King Padma Vibhushan Jagjit Singh, who was born and brought up in Sriganganagar, studied and sung ghazals, was celebrated in the same govt. quarter premises in Civil Lines, Sriganganagar where he spent his childhood. The building was tastefully decorated with flowers and Rangoli.

RD Burman Fans Club (RDBFC) founder organiser Shailender Singh Chauhan welcomed the guests. Artists remembered Jagjit Singh with ghazals, poems and songs sung by him. Meenu Goswami, Poonam Sharma and Amanpreet Singh, disciples of Pankaj Sharma, presented ghazals, poems and songs. Anchoring was done by Kajal Arora.

Dr Savita Lalgarhia enthralled the fans by presenting the tune of Ghazal “Tere Aane Ki Jab Khabar Mahke” on the aerial guitar. Chand Suleman and Sunil Maurya accompanied on the instruments. Daulat Ram Anpadh presented Saraswati Vandana.

Flowers were offered on the portrait of Jagjit Singh; birthday was celebrated by cutting the cake. Veteran social activist Jaideep Bihani urged the audience to attend the finale of Singing Competition “Voice of Ganganagar” on February 19, being organized for the first time under the joint aegis of Bihani Education Trust and RD Burman Fans Club. The finale will be held in the auditorium of SD College.
