MANSA COURT SENTENCES ASSISTANT DISTRICT TREASURY OFFICER, HIS ACCOMPLICE FOR 7 YEARS IMPRISONMENT IN BRIBERY CASE

Aiming to eradicate corruption under the zero tolerance policy adopted by the state government under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing anti-corruption campaign has been able to get the accused behind the bar in a corruption case as a special court of Mansa on Monday awarded imprisonment to an Assistant District Treasury Officer Mansa Gurpreet Singh and his associate Atma Singh, resident of village Kotra, district Mansa for seven years each jail.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said the complainant Gurjit Kaur, resident of Mansa Kainchian, Mansa city, had complained to the bureau and told that after the demise of her husband Harinder Singh Patwari, the above said assistant district treasury officer colluded with Atma Singh, of village Kotra, in Mansa and demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 in lieu of passing the bill pertaining to his salary arrears of Rs. 7 lakh.

Acting on this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and arrested the Assistant District Treasury Officer and his accomplice on 27-07-2015 in the presence of two official witnesses while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000.In this regard a corruption case was registered against both the accused at VB police station Bathinda.

He further added that pursuing this bribery case diligently, the Vigilance Bureau has presented the challan in the court, on the basis of which the Additional District and Sessions Judge of the Special Court, Mr. Mandeep Singh Dhillon, today convicted both the accused in this case and sentenced to seven years imprisonment each. Later, the team of Vigilance Bureau Unit Mansa detained both the accused and get them lodged in the District Jail Mansa.
